Oblation Aid Helps Fight Malaria in Philippines
When ministers in the Philippines learned of a malaria outbreak in the
remote community of Baggao, they planned a medical mission and requested
assistance from the World Church to provide for medicine and other expenses.
Oblation aid of $2,000 was immediately made available to support their
efforts.

Jennifer De Guzman, associate Southeast Asia Mission Center president,
said, “The village where our congregation is situated is much affected,
including neighboring villages.” A ministerial team with medical expertise,
including Dr. Roger Cabida, Josie Magabilin, and Anjong Bustillo, was
organized to carry out a one- to two-day mission providing medication and
treatment to affected people early in October.
Felix De Guzman informed Philippine church staff that there were more than
700 cases of malaria in the area of Baggao since the beginning of 2006.
Malaria is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in many resource-poor
countries where prevention and treatment options are not readily available.
Jennifer said, “On behalf of the staff, I would like to give our
appreciation for the immediate response and financial support for the medical
mission.” The gratitude of those who were treated and comforted through this
ministry is extended to the many generous contributors to the Community of
Christ Oblation Fund.
