Gathering in Africa Brings Together Ministers
Seven evangelists, eight high priests, and fourteen seventies
from the seven mission centers in Africa recently gathered for worship,
training, fellowship, and cultural sharing at the Natural Resources College in
Lilongwe, Malawi.
The event ran June 28–July 2. It started with the dedication of
a church in Area 25 of Lilongwe. Also, Apostle Bunda Chibwe and Bishop Malcolm
Stephenson ordained Zibodi Augustin of the Ivory Coast/Liberia Mission Center to
the office of evangelist.
Training during the gathering covered topics such as “A Defining
Moment,” President Steve Veazey’s address to the church in April. Other sessions
focused on the “We Share” document, Doctrine and Covenants 163, and
office-specific training for the ministers.
Trainers were Bunda Chibwe, Africa/Haiti Mission Field apostle;
David Waring, Africa/Haiti Mission Field apostolic assistant; Jane Gardner, High
Priest Quorum president; Richard James, Sixth Quorum of Seventy president; Karen
Waring, seventy, British Isles Mission Centre; and Bill Brian, seventy,
Mid-Atlantic USA Mission Center.
