Oblation Aid Offers Relief in the Midst of Philippines
Typhoons
October 2, 2009
Rains, winds, and
floods from a tropical storm followed by a typhoon have devastated
the Philippines National Capital Region
and neighboring provinces. Jennifer de Guzman, assistant to the Southeast Asia
Mission Center president, said, “It has left Manila almost as a dead city. Many
lives and homes were lost.”
Community of Christ
Oblation funds in the amount of US$15,000 have been sent as immediate aid
through Outreach International (OI). OI is a participatory human development
agency affiliated with Community of Christ. They are already in the area and
have launched a campaign to help in this crisis.
“On behalf of the church in the Philippines,” said
Jennifer, “I would like to express our gratitude for the generous aid the World
Church has extended to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy.”
“Very
unfortunately,” she continued, “we are again expecting another typhoon
tomorrow…it is already in the country’s perimeter. We are already experiencing
strong winds in our area. It is forecast to be a super typhoon and people are
very scared. The typhoon is towards NE Luzon (particularly Region II) where
most of our congregations are situated. Please pray for us.”
Thanks to the generous support of Oblation Fund
contributors, Community of Christ is able to respond as a worldwide church to
the need in the Philippines. Thank you for sharing this news with others,
