In Times of Pain, Where Is God?
Some came in financial crisis, some arrived in emotional pain,
and others sought to learn how to help.
They all attended this year’s Health & Spirituality Workshop at
the Temple in Independence, Missouri. “In Times of Pain, Where Is God?” was the
theme of the August 21–22 event, which drew the largest crowd in its seven-year
history. Ward Foley shared his journey as the keynote speaker.
“I appreciate how Ward looked for good and blessing in his scars
and disabilities,” one attendee said.
Many people who recognize pain in others, attended for skills and information.
“I appreciate class subjects that meet the needs of people in their lives,” one
person said.
President David Schaal will provide the keynote address, “When
the Real World Comes to Church,” at next year’s workshop, scheduled September
24–25.
The workshops began in 2003 with direction from President
Emeritus Wallace B. Smith. Each workshop features presenters from numerous
religious and denominational affiliations to enhance perspectives.
