Oblation aid continues to help members in Haiti
recover from hurricanes
Additional Oblation aid of $30,000 was sent in early October to help
with hurricane recovery in Haiti. This followed conversations with Haiti
Mission Center president Renand Hilaire and financial officer Jean
Michel Rosier as well as reports on how the initial aid of $10,000 was
distributed.
Further assessments confirmed that many church members homes were
damaged or destroyed. Their animals and gardens were also washed away.
Johnny Stabno, assistant to the apostle for the Africa and Haiti Mission
Field, said, “There is certainly a further need for immediate help.”
Thanks to the generous ongoing support of Oblation Fund contributors,
Community of Christ is able to respond as a worldwide church to these
needs in Haiti. Thank you for sharing this news with others, offering
prayers, and giving generously. Contribute online from

Initial Oblation aid of $10,000 was sent in early
September to help church members in areas of Haiti, where Hurricanes
Gustav, Hanna, and Ike have been especially devastating.
Weeks of incessant rain led to widespread flooding. Jean Michel
Rosier, Haiti Mission Center financial officer, reported that
survivors in Gonaives were living on their rooftops. In
Chardonnieres, the potable drinking water reservoir system was
completely destroyed.
Haiti Mission Center President Renand Hilaire said, “The people
have been drawing polluted water in various locations. It is
unhealthy for drinking and other daily duties and this is beginning
to wreak havoc within the community.” Some dollars were directed to
build a well.
The total number of deaths is still uncertain. At least eight
Community of Christ churches were completely destroyed and another
nine have incurred significant damage.
Michel said, “People lost everything they have.” Many people lost
their homes as well as gardens and livestock. Of great concern is
keeping children in school after families have lost new uniforms and
books.
Thanks to the generous ongoing support of Oblation Fund
contributors, Community of Christ is able to respond as a worldwide
church. Thank you for sharing this news with others, offering prayers, and
giving generously.
