| President Veazey launched the Community of Christ Peace Support Network to more than 1,000 youths and staffers from the USA and Canada at SPECTACULAR. |
During July’s SPECTACULAR, with the stands full of enthused youth, President Steve Veazey launched the Community of Christ Peace Support Network. He introduced campers to its basic Web site and invited them to be an active part of it. Within the few months that have passed, it has become clear that the possibilities are even greater than imagined.
You are invited too!
Community of Christ Peace Support Network is a virtual, global network that links people and groups with peacemaking ideas, information, resources, models, education, and action opportunities.
YouTube ContestCommunity of Christ Peace Support Network is hosting a contest to communicate peace in community. The grand prize is $1,000. Film a one- to two-minute video on the theme “Create Peace” and post it to the network’s YouTube group at www.youtube.com/group/peacesupport. Videos will be judged on creativity, ability to communicate positive peace to a wide audience, and YouTube ratings and popularity. Videos must be posted by February 15, 2009. The grand prize winner and three runners-up will be notified by March 31. Those who do not consider themselves filmmakers can participate by watching and becoming part of the discussion in the YouTube forum found at the same URL. |
President Veazey explained, “It is a tangible response to the call in Doctrine and Covenants 163 to ‘create pathways for peace’ in the world and ‘challenge cultural, political, and religious trends that are contrary to the reconciling and restoring purposes of God.’ It is also a clear response to the call to ‘become a people of the Temple’ (Doctrine and Covenants 161:2) by pursing ministries of healing of the spirit, reconciliation, and peacemaking in the world.”
