Native American Longest Walk Stops in Independence
The community is invited to join participants of the Longest Walk this
Friday, May 2 at 5:00 p.m. on the Community of Christ Temple grounds for
drumming and prayers of blessing and healing at the Tree of Peace (north side of
the building).
The Longest Walk is a national grassroots effort to bring attention to the
environmental disharmony of Mother Earth. The group’s message is “All Life Is
Sacred: Save Mother Earth.” The goal of the walk is “to clean up our country’s
highways and roads by collecting debris found along the Longest Walk route.”
Throughout their 4,400 mile walk, representatives of several Native American
nations will stop at sacred sites for special events. The Independence event is
sponsored by Community of Christ Native American Ministries and the First
Nations Community Council for Community of Christ (NAM/FNC_C).
All are welcome to again join the walkers after 7:00 p.m. for a campfire and
storytelling at Pleasant Heights Community of Christ, 4341 Blue Ridge Boulevard,
Kansas City, Missouri, 64133.
Official event information can be found at
www.LongestWalk.org. The Community of Christ Open Arms congregation has
information on its website at
