Zion’s League youth have assembled “Manna Bags” using a recipe David Mader
discovered from a church in Texas. They are called Manna Bags in reference to
the food God sent the Israelites in the desert in the book of Exodus. These bags of non-perishables (such as a granola bar; cans of peaches, beans,
and corn; bottled water and juice; crackers; raisins; and a spoon) are sold to
congregation members to keep in their cars so that when they encounter a person
in need they can give them the Manna Bag. After a bag has been given out, a
replacement can be purchased. This will be an ongoing ministry for the youth.
“Like many followers of Christ, we are often hard pressed to find an
appropriate response to the needs of others which we are confronted with from
day-to-day. We hope these Manna Bags will provide a more useful and dynamic
response from individuals than one-on-one requests for donations.” said Josh
Morganthall.
Bags were sold to congregation members at cost: $5. As of February, 25 bags
had been sold, with another 25 promised. Roger Rose said, “Each time I give away
a bag, I am amazed at the eyes of the person receiving the bag. … Folks seem
more than grateful. They seem joyful. …They seem to see that I cared enough to
anticipate their need.”
