Worth of All Persons
God views all people as having inestimable and equal worth.
Responding to Racism
“Leftover People in Leftover Places” CCS 275
Have you ever been around people who are critical of a particular race or culture? What feelings arise and how do you respond? What challenges do you face in responding to racism? What would you share about the church’s belief about the worth of all persons? How would you stand up for that person?
Doctrine and Covenants 164:6a
“God, We Gather as Your People” CCS 274
Compare Galatians 3:26 to Doctrine and Covenants 164:6a. To whom was each author speaking? What are the differences in the two audiences? What is similar? Whose “worth” in your community do you need to recognize?
Plan a worship service for your congregation that celebrates the worth of each generation. How can each generation reveal something about Jesus Christ and his ministry in our lives? Ideas for the service might include: how a newborn child reminds us of the birth of Jesus; how a child reminds us of joyfulness and the peaceable kingdom; how a youth reminds us of the story of Jesus at the age of twelve in the temple—one is never too young to be about God’s work; how a young adult reminds us of a time of learning, making choices, growing in ministry (refer to 1 Timothy 4:6–16); how adults in the middle of their lives remind us of maturity of faith, experience, and pastoral leadership; how an older adult reminds us to cherish and learn from lifelong discipleship and gain wisdom by receiving God’s gift of Christ in our lives.
