Move When the Spirit Says Move

Jesus said (in John 14:26) that he would give his disciples the Holy Spirit to continue helping them. Sing a fun song such as “Move When the Spirit Says Move.” The idea of the song is based on God’s continuing revelation to us, to give us ideas and direction. Divide into equal groups. Each group should come up with a new motion for the song, such as dance, high five, sneeze, twirl, or jump. Sing the song, giving each group their turn to lead the whole group.

Discuss: Have you ever had a strong feeling to do something, especially for others? Such as, talk to a new kid at school, help a brother or sister, find a lost pet, or help in some other way? Did you listen to that feeling and respond? Could that have been God urging you to help others? Pay close attention to those feelings. It may be one of God’s ways of speaking to you!

Be Still and Know that I Am God

Repeating or writing a verse of scripture can focus your mind on God. Watch the video and complete the journal page of “Learning to Recognize God,” Day 12. Use the scripture Psalm 45:10: “Be still and know that I am God.” In your journal, write each of the following phrases slowly and prayerfully:

Be still and know that I am God…
Be still and know that I am…
Be still and know…
Be still…

Now write the scripture in reverse order:
Be still…
Be still and know…
Be still and know that I am…
Be still and know that I am God.

How do you feel while repeating these words in this way? What do you think about? Does this practice draw you closer to God; give you a sense of shalom or peace? Tell another about it and invite them to try.
