eTithing FAQ

eTithing FAQ

What is eTithing?

eTithing is Community of Christ’s online platform for members and friends in the US to give Mission Tithes. Giving is safe, easy, and flexible, using desktop computers, tablets, and mobile devices.

Make one-time or recurring contributions by bank withdrawal, and with credit and debit cards. When you set up a recurring contribution, you decide when giving starts and the frequency of recurrence (weekly, every two weeks, bimonthly, or monthly).

Contribute anonymously or create an account. With an account, you can:

  • View your giving history.
  • Add or edit bank account information.
  • Add a credit or debit card.
  • Change credit or debit card information.
  • Manage your recurring contribution.
  • Make a one-time gift.

How do I contribute to Local Mission Tithes and Worldwide Mission Tithes?

  • Visit www.etithing.org.
  • Select your congregation from the first page or select "My Home Congregation"
  • Select the "Click to donate" button
  • Follow the prompts to complete the giving process.

Do I need to set up two separate gifts to give to my congregation and to World Church?

No. You don't have to set up separate gifts to give to your local congregation and to World Church. You can do both in the same gift through your congregation (if listed) or “My Home Congregation”.

Can I give to more than one congregation?

Gifts through “My Home Congregation” will be directed to the congregation where your membership record is located. You can also give to congregations and mission centers that are specifically listed by name, in addition to your home congregation, by setting up a separate gift for each listing (congregation or mission center) to which you want to give..

What should I do if I lose my eTithing password?

Set up a new password:

  1. Visit www.etithing.org.
  2. Click "Sign-in" in the top right corner
  3. Select “Forgot password?”
  4. Follow the prompts. Contact Fiscal Services at FiscalServices@CofChrist.org or phone (816) 833-1000 ext. 1391 for additional support.

Why isn't my congregation listed on eTithing?

There are two ways that eligible congregations can participate in eTithing: the free plan or the $5-per-month plan. If your congregation participates in the free plan, you will not see your congregation listed by name. Your local contributions made through the “My Home Congregation” listing will be directed to the congregation where your membership record is located.

Congregations that do not accept electronic contributions or enter their contributions into the church's receipting database are not eligible to participate in eTithing.

If your congregation is not listed on eTithing, you can give by selecting "Worldwide Mission Tithes" from the "Give To" drop-down menu.

If your congregation would like to begin receiving electronic contributions, have your congregational financial officer contact Fiscal Services at FiscalServices@CofChrist.org or (816) 833-1000 ext. 1391.

How do I give if my congregation isn't listed?

If your congregation is eligible to participate in eTithing but is not listed by name, you can give by selecting "My Home Congregation" from the "Give To" drop-down menu.

If your congregation would like to begin receiving online contributions, have your congregational financial officer contact Fiscal Services at FiscalServices@CofChrist.org or (816) 833-1000, ext. 1391.

I’d like to see my congregregation listed by name in eTithing. What should I do?

Contact your Congregational Financial Officer, who will work with Fiscal Services to enroll your congregation in the $5-per-month plan. The $5 fee is per congregation, not per contributor.

Congregations may not sign up for the $5-per-month plan between October 1, 2018 and January 1, 2019. Have your Congregational Financial Officer contact Fiscal Services at FiscalServices@CofChrist.org by October 1, 2018 to keep your congregation listed on eTithing.

I'd like to add more designations for giving to my congregation. What should I do?

Contact your Congregational Financial Officer, who will work with Fiscal Services to add designations (purposes).

Why am I receiving emails from SecureGive?

SecureGive hosts eTithing.

SecureGive notifies eTithing users any time a contribution was successfully made to Community of Christ or if a transaction failed.

When will my eTithing contribution be withdrawn from my account?

Users with eTithing accounts can choose when their giving starts and the frequency of recurrence (weekly, every two weeks, bimonthly, or monthly). You can log into your eTithing account to change the withdrawal date and frequency of recurrence.

Will I get a tax receipt for my eTithing contributions?

Yes. If you are a member of a USA congregation and your eTithing gift is given through “My Home Congregation” or a specifically listed congregation, your eTithing contributions will be included on the Contributor’s Statement that you receive from the Congregational Financial Officer.

If you are not a member of a congregation or if you give only through the “Worldwide Mission Tithes” option instead of through “My Home Congregation” or a listed congregation, you will receive a Contributor’s Statement in the mail from International Headquarters.

I’ve heard that eTithing is changing. How will the changes affect me as a contributor?

Yes, members and friends using eTithing will see major differences in the electronic giving platform around Fall of 2018. An upgraded version of eTithing will launch with a fresh layout and additional features.

Around the same time, mission centers that want to be included on eTithing will have the opportunity to do so.

Does World Church charge congregations to participate in eTithing?

SecureGive, the eTithing platform host, has announced changes to pricing. Plans for congregations and mission centers are expected to be in effect on January 1, 2019: one is a free plan, the other a $5-per-month plan. World Church will facilitate payments to SecureGive for congregations and mission centers that choose the $5-per-month plan. The $5 fee is per listing (congregation or mission center) and there is no limit to the number of contributors in that congregation.

World Church will continue to pay credit card transaction fees for both plans.

Can I give through eTithing if my congregation does not participate in eTithing?

Yes. Members and friends whose congregation does not participate in eTithing can give to World Church through the “Worldwide Mission Tithes” listing.

If your congregation would like to begin receiving online contributions, have your congregational financial officer contact Fiscal Services at FiscalServices@CofChrist.org or (816) 833-1000, ext. 1391.

Can my campground be listed in eTithing?

eTithing is not available to campgrounds to use directly. eTithing is for tithing only (church giving) and works with the Shelby contribution module where receipts are provided in the name of Community of Christ. The Shelby membership and contribution module is not appropriate for use by campgrounds.

However, congregations and mission centers that opt for the $5-per-month plan can include a campground as an option in their listing and then remit the funds to the campground using purpose codes that are already established for this purpose.

Are there any other resources to help me navigate eTithing?

Yes. There are a series of instructional videos on the following topics:
