Call to Prayer

Invitation

In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to this prayer for peace.  The “Temple [that] calls the entire church to become a sanctuary of Christ’s peace, where people from all nations, ethnicities, and life circumstances can be gathered into a spiritual home without dividing walls.”

—Doctrine and Covenants 163:8c

Today in our prayers we remember the people of Kosovo, a nation in the Balkans region of Europe. A self-declared independent country, Kosovo is a land of charming mountain towns and monasteries dating to the 13th century, among many other natural and cultural points of beauty and interest.

Scripture Reading—Isaiah 33:5-6 NRSV

The Lord is exalted, he dwells on high;

  he filled Zion with justice and righteousness;

he will be the stability of your times,

  abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;

  the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure.

Prayer for Peace

Kristin Carter Smith

Dear Lord, Father of all the heavens, of all the seas and all the lands,

Hear us as we call to you with voices from our hearts, cries from our souls.

Hear our lament with ear bent sharp.

As we seek your guidance and reach for your answer, hear our prayers for peace, for love, for understanding in a world full of fear, a world full of chaos, an entire planet of your peoples striving to endure and overcome in a world we did not mean to create.

Help us do the right thing, take the correct actions, uphold the precautions we need to follow in order to lead us away from the strife of this pandemic.

Helps us be the Saints we have been called to be.

Dear Lord, Father of all the heavens above us, of all the seas and of all the lands that surround us,

Give us your salvation from the chaos we have created.

Hear our pleas and show us the way to you, the way to peace and greater love.

Hear our calls of anguish and have mercy on those suffering in the world around us.

Help us reach out with our hearts, reach out with our minds, reach within our own souls to find the righteous actions, the loving beliefs, and the healing words to lead us towards a world where every one of your children feels the warmth of your love through of all of their brothers and sisters.

Helps us be the Saints we have been called to be.

Dear Lord, Father of all the heavens we can see, of all the waters that flow and all the grounds we walk on,

Help us listen to your words.

Help us listen to your voice when you whisper to our hearts, to our souls.

Help us hear you and recognize when we are being called by you, by your Son, to do something bigger than what we are, to be someone bigger than we knew we could be.

Help us learn to heal our mother earth, the world you have given us to care for, our home with your eyes for its star-lit roof, your breath for winds, your blood and tears for waters and your flesh for the land we live on and earth we live from.

Helps us be the Saints we have been called to be. Amen.

Hymn

Today’s hymn is “Wind upon the Waters” number 49 in Community of Christ Sings. Sing or silently reflect on the meaning of the text.

Prayers of the People

As we enter a time of guided prayer, meditation, and musical reflection, you are invited to offer silent prayers or meditate during the moments of quiet. The Prayers of the People begin with individuals and groups, then move out from this Temple of peace to include the human family and the planet.

Allow yourself to come reverently into the presence of the Divine and please join with me in prayer. Transformative encounters await you here with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler.

Pause.

Creator God, cleanse our hearts. Accept the confession of our flaws and failures, and make us whole. Transform us, O God, into the persons of peace and grace you created us to be.

Pause.

Redeeming God, bring to our awareness those persons and relationships that are broken, and make us conscious of the need for reconciliation and forgiveness. Transform us for relationships of wholeness once again.

Pause.

Saving God, allow us to feel your love and concern for your children in communities around the world, far and near. We remember all nations, including Kosovo, the country we pray for today. May we weep with your tears and act with compassion to heal those who are suffering.

Pause.

God of all creation, stir within us a deep connection with everything you have created; make us aware of the sacred nature of all that surrounds us and lead us into deep reverence that cultivates nurturing actions.

Pause.

May these prayers of concern, compassion, and transformation for ourselves, others, all people, and the Earth lead us into a world shaped by your unconditional love, O God. Amen.
