Call to Prayer
Lighting of Candle
In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to this “Temple … an instrument of ongoing revelation in the life of the church. Its symbolism and ministries call people to reverence in the presence of the Divine Being. Transformative encounters with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler await those who follow its spiritual pathways of healing, reconciliation, peace, strengthening of faith, and knowledge.”
—Doctrine and Covenants 163:8a
Today in our prayers we remember the people of Trinidad and Tobago, located off the northeast coast of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea.
Scripture Reading—Ephesians 2:17-19 NRSV
So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God,
Prayer for Peace
Dearest God, how pleasant to be in your presence; what joy to be with friends who also love you.
This is holy ground; sacred memories of being intimately touched by your divine spirit.
How can we do anything else but take your love so freely given and do likewise within the sacredness of community. Let us intimately touch the lives within your grace and generosity.
May we always tune our listening ears to your continuing revelations, and to listening to one another. May we intimately value the worth of all people, and to recognize the giftedness of each one, and to encourage each one in their divine call to serve.
May we make responsible choices to honour your divine gift of choice: the choice to love and serve you…or not! May we always pursue peace for all, even if it hurts or costs us.
Dearest God, you made diversity in every living thing. You made each of us slightly different, but also the same in our human needs. May we as a community be blessed and also be a blessing to all within the worldwide community of God.
What wonder are the mysteries you set before us to draw close to you, that through your Holy Spirit you might teach all things, and may we thirst and hunger after your divine teachings so that you can truly equip us in Christ-like giftedness.
In Jesus name. Amen.
Today’s hymn is 588 in Community of Christ Sings, “Beloved Community of God.” Sing or silently reflect on the meaning of the text as it is sung. Hymn number 588.
Prayers of the People
As we enter a time of guided prayer, meditation, and musical reflection, you are invited to offer silent prayers or meditate during the moments of quiet. The Prayers of the People begin with individuals and groups, then move out from this Temple of peace to include the human family and the planet.
Allow yourself to come reverently into the presence of the Divine and please join with me in prayer. Transformative encounters await you here with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler.
Creator God, cleanse our hearts. Accept the confession of our flaws and failures, and make us whole. Transform us, O God, into the persons of peace and grace you created us to be.
Redeeming God, bring to our awareness those persons and relationships that are broken, and make us conscious of the need for reconciliation and forgiveness. Transform us for relationships of wholeness once again.
Saving God, allow us to feel your love and concern for your children in communities around the world, far and near. We remember all nations, including Trinidad and Tobago, the country we pray for today. May we weep with your tears and act with compassion to heal those who are suffering.
God of all creation, stir within us a deep connection with everything you have created; make us aware of the sacred nature of all that surrounds us and lead us into deep reverence that cultivates nurturing actions.
May these prayers of concern, compassion, and transformation for ourselves, others, all people, and the Earth lead us into a world shaped by your unconditional love, O God. Amen.
Cherish inner peace. Honor relationships.
Become communities of love, joy, hope, and peace.
Go in peace.
