Call to Prayer

Invitation

In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to this sacred space. The Temple “stand(s) as a towering symbol of a people who knew injustice and strife on the frontier and who now seek the peace of Jesus Christ throughout the world.”

—Doctrine and Covenants 161:2b

Today in our prayers we remember the people of Bhutan [boo·taan], located in South Asia. It borders the People’s Republic of China and India.

Scripture Reading—Doctrine and Covenants 161:6b

Heed the urgent call to become a global family united in the name of the Christ, committed in love to one another, seeking the kingdom for which you yearn and to which you have always been summoned. That kingdom shall be a peaceable one and it shall be known as Zion.

Prayer for Peace

Author: Claudia Schooler

Loving God,

In the quietness of this holy place, we catch a glimpse of the peace you intend for all of creation. Our thoughts can rise as our spirits rest. The hope in our hearts is refreshed by the richness of this fellowship.

Let there be peace on earth.

Hear our prayer for peace for the nations of this world. May your peace fall on all the fighting factions who have forgotten that your love is for all. Touch the hearts of the decision-makers and power holders with humility and compassion. Rekindle the light of your peace where poverty and prejudice so often extinguish hope.

Let there be peace on earth.

With all the gentleness we are learning, we hold up your people: the ones with illnesses that cloud the mind or weaken the body, the ones who are grieving, the ones who are struggling in fractured relationships or challenging circumstances. We uphold them all.

Let there be peace on earth.

O God, do not let us be content with lifting our prayers. As we call upon you, let us also dare to lift our voices, our hands, and our resources to your mission of peace.

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Amen

Hymn

Today’s hymn is “You Are Called to Tell the Story” number 625 in Community of Christ Sings. Sing or silently reflect on the meaning of the text.

Prayers of the People

As we enter a time of guided prayer, meditation, and musical reflection, you are invited to offer silent prayers or meditate during the moments of quiet. The Prayers of the People begin with individuals and groups, then move out to include the human family and the planet.

Allow yourself to come reverently into the presence of the Divine and please join with me in prayer. Transformative encounters await you here with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler.

Pause.

Creator God, cleanse our hearts. Accept the confession of our flaws and failures, and make us whole. Transform us, O God, into the persons of peace and grace you created us to be.

Pause.

Redeeming God, bring to our awareness those persons and relationships that are broken, and make us conscious of the need for reconciliation and forgiveness. Transform us for relationships of wholeness once again.

Pause.

Saving God, allow us to feel your love and concern for your children in communities around the world, far and near. We remember all nations, including Bhutan, the country we pray for today. May we weep with your tears and act with compassion to heal those who are suffering.

Pause.

God of all creation, stir within us a deep connection with everything you have created; make us aware of the sacred nature of all that surrounds us and lead us into deep reverence that cultivates nurturing actions.

Pause.

May these prayers of concern, compassion, and transformation for ourselves, others, all people, and the Earth lead us into a world shaped by your unconditional love, O God. Amen.
