Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting the Peace Candle
In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to this sacred space where we are called to, “above all else, strive to be faithful to Christ’s vision of the peaceable Kingdom of God on earth. Courageously challenge cultural, political, and religious trends that are contrary to the reconciling and restoring purposes of God. Pursue peace.”
—Doctrine and Covenants 163:3b
Today in our prayers we remember the people of Mongolia, a nation in East Asia. It is a landlocked country with an incredible history and natural beauty. Mongolia’s nomadic culture is alive as is the country’s tremendous hospitality.
Scripture Reading—Psalm 112:1, 4-5, 9
Praise the Lord!
Happy are those who fear the Lord,
who greatly delight in his commandments.
They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright;
they are gracious, merciful, and righteous.
It is well with those who deal generously and lend,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
They have distributed freely, they have given to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever;
their horn is exalted in honor.
Prayer for Peace
Like the Seraphim who brought live coals from the Alter to another’s lips; I stand in anticipation and can only say, “Holy, Holy, Holy.” I recognize my sense of unworthiness as I come to my sacred place to pray.
I know my prayers have been answered; some after 25 years, some after 25 minutes, and some after seconds. I know you hear me God for I have known the Spirit of your love, your forgiveness, and felt “your peace that passes all understanding.”
Yet, I continue to come to you amid a world of confusion. I continually pray for peace; and try, in my small way, to work for peace. It is hard work, never ending work, and I suspect eternal work. I try to remind myself of the pebble effect on the water. May my small stone, along with so many others be the catalyst for peace...in our homes, cities, countries, and nations.
We love you God; and as the angels surround us, I pray for the strength to do more; for it is my journey...with 10 thousand more to love all your creation.
God, may my deep hope align with your deep vision. Release in me anything that keeps me from freely following your Spirit. Amen.
You are invited to share in the hymn for today, “God Is Calling,” 172 in Community of Christ Sings.
Prayers of the People
As we enter a time of guided prayer, meditation, and musical reflection, you are invited to offer silent prayers or meditate during the moments of quiet. The Prayers of the People begin with individuals and groups, then move out from this Temple of peace to include the human family and the planet.
Allow yourself to come reverently into the presence of the Divine and please join with me in prayer. Transformative encounters await you here with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler.
Creator God, cleanse our hearts. Accept the confession of our flaws and failures, and make us whole. Transform us, O God, into the persons of peace and grace you created us to be.
Redeeming God, bring to our awareness those persons and relationships that are broken, and make us conscious of the need for reconciliation and forgiveness. Transform us for relationships of wholeness once again.
Saving God, allow us to feel your love and concern for your children in communities around the world, far and near. We remember all nations, including Mongolia, the country we pray for today. May we weep with your tears and act with compassion to heal those who are suffering.
God of all creation, stir within us a deep connection with everything you have created; make us aware of the sacred nature of all that surrounds us and lead us into deep reverence that cultivates nurturing actions.
May these prayers of concern, compassion, and transformation for ourselves, others, all people, and the Earth lead us into a world shaped by your unconditional love, O God. Amen.
Cherish inner peace. Honor relationships.
Become communities of love, joy, hope, and peace.
Go in peace.
