Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of Candle
In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to this sacred time of prayer. The Temple that “stand(s) as a towering symbol of a people who knew injustice and strife on the frontier and who now seek the peace of Jesus Christ throughout the world.”
—Doctrine and Covenants 161:2b
Today in our prayers we remember the people of Georgia, a nation at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. It is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan.
Scripture Reading—Doctrine and Covenants 157:16
In the many places where you are called to labor, the forces of darkness and destruction are active indeed, and seem to hold sway. Your hearts are burdened by the magnitude of the tasks that are yours in bringing the light of my gospel into such darkness. Nevertheless, I have heard your prayers when you have cried out t ome, and i have been with you in the places where you occupy. I am aware of your desire to serve me and my assurance is that as you go forth, your offerings of faith and service are acceptable to me.
Prayer for Peace
Giver of peace I praise you for quiet breezes of spirit and the warm sunshine of love. May your cool, refreshing rain bring renewal to my soul. In thanks I come to you, God. The blessing of my life come from the bounty you have provided. It is when I recognize all that comes from you, I know I am truly loved by you, my God.
Giver of peace I need the loving, healing Spirit that fills my emptiness. I struggle in my relationships with those who surround me, neighbors, friends, loved ones. I need to find that peaceful Spirit that will allow me to value others without judging them. Guide me to an understanding of your peace and grace, Giver of peace. Amen.
Today’s hymn is “For the Beauty of the Earth” number 130 in Community of Christ Sings. Sing or silently reflect on the meaning of the text.
Prayers of the People
As we enter a time of guided prayer, meditation, and musical reflection, you are invited to offer silent prayers or meditate during the moments of quiet. The Prayers of the People begin with individuals and groups, then move out from this Temple of peace to include the human family and the planet.
Allow yourself to come reverently into the presence of the Divine and please join with me in prayer. Transformative encounters await you here with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler.
Creator God, cleanse our hearts. Accept the confession of our flaws and failures, and make us whole. Transform us, O God, into the persons of peace and grace you created us to be.
Redeeming God, bring to our awareness those persons and relationships that are broken, and make us conscious of the need for reconciliation and forgiveness. Transform us for relationships of wholeness once again.
Saving God, allow us to feel your love and concern for your children in communities around the world, far and near. We remember all nations, including Georgia, the country we pray for today. May we weep with your tears and act with compassion to heal those who are suffering.
God of all creation, stir within us a deep connection with everything you have created; make us aware of the sacred nature of all that surrounds us and lead us into deep reverence that cultivates nurturing actions.
May these prayers of concern, compassion, and transformation for ourselves, others, all people, and the Earth lead us into a world shaped by your unconditional love, O God. Amen.
Cherish inner peace. Honor relationships.
Become communities of love, joy, hope, and peace.
Go in peace.
