Daily Prayer for Peace — 03 December

Gathering in Silence—Call to Prayer (9 chimes)—Lighting of Candle

In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to this service of peace where “God is calling for a prophetic community to emerge, drawn from the nations of the world, that is characterized by uncommon devotion to the compassion and peace of God revealed in Jesus Christ.”

—Doctrine and Covenants 163:11a

Today in our prayers we remember the people of Mali (maa·lee), located in West Africa. Its borders on the north reach deep into the middle of the Sahara Desert, while the southern part of the country, where the majority of inhabitants live, features the Niger and Senegal rivers.

Scripture Reading—Doctrine and Covenants 102:11a-b

And again, I say unto you, Sue for peace, not only the people that have smitten you, but also to all people; and lift up an ensign of peace, and make a proclamation for peace unto the ends of the earth;

Prayer for Peace

Pam Robison

Bringer of peace and reconciliation—

As we sit in this place dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we are reminded of chaos in the world…people struggling with storms of life. Physical storms…emotional storms…spiritual ones.

None of us are immune.

Yet in many ways, many of us are fortunate. We have shelter, clothing, food. Most of us do not worry about where or how our needs will be met.

But even so, there are those among us who struggle with guilt…anger…fear…resentment.

In this place and at this time, help us to be reminded of our unity—that what affects one person affects each of us. The needless death of any part of your creation diminishes each of us.

And we are all guilty. It is easy to sit in complacency—but I know that many of my actions—actions I don’t want to give up—have a negative action toward bringing peace.

Forgive us, Lord. Help us respond to the needs around us in ways that bring healing and peace—that help restore the earth—that bring reconciliation.

In the name of the Prince of Peace, Amen.

You are invited to share in the hymn for today, “Blessed Be the God of Israel” number 396 in Community of Christ Sings. You also may silently reflect on the meaning of the text.

Prayers of the People

As we enter a time of guided prayer, meditation, and musical reflection, you are invited to offer silent prayers or meditate during the moments of quiet. The Prayers of the People begin with individuals and groups, then move out from this Temple of peace to include the human family and the planet.

Allow yourself to come reverently into the presence of the Divine and please join with me in prayer. Transformative encounters await you here with the Eternal Creator and Reconciler.

Creator God, cleanse our hearts. Accept the confession of our flaws and failures, and make us whole. Transform us, O God, into the persons of peace and grace you created us to be.

Redeeming God, bring to our awareness those persons and relationships that are broken, and make us conscious of the need for reconciliation and forgiveness. Transform us for relationships of wholeness once again.

Saving God, allow us to feel your love and concern for your children in communities around the world, far and near. We remember all nations, including Mali, the country we pray for today. May we weep with your tears and act with compassion to heal those who are suffering.

God of all creation, stir within us a deep connection with everything you have created; make us aware of the sacred nature of all that surrounds us and lead us into deep reverence that cultivates nurturing actions.

May these prayers of concern, compassion, and transformation for ourselves, others, all people, and the Earth lead us into a world shaped by your unconditional love, O God. Amen.
