2019 World Conference Preparation

2019 World Conference Preparation

In preparation for World Conference 2019, the question becomes an invitation to pilgrimage—a journey of individual and community discernment, discovery, and of becoming. Our pilgrim heritage guides our journey. It is an exciting faith adventure, still unfolding. Whether we gather for World Conference in person or in spirit, all are invited to step across the threshold of the now, to shed ourselves of personal agendas, and to journey anew into what can be.

—Janné Grover, “A Journey of Becoming,” May/June Herald

Invitation to Preparation

There are several ways members and friends of the church around the world can prepare for World Conference, whether you are able to attend in person or will join us via live webcast or social media.

Breathe New Life

Individual, Group, or Sunday School study

This 2018 adult text (available in English, French, and Spanish) is a guide for personal or group study and reflection. It centers on the purposes of the Temple described in Doctrine and Covenants 156:5. God breathes new life into the church and the world as disciples embody peace, reconciliation, healing, witness, wholeness, formation, and restoration.

Summoned to Pilgrimage

Individual, Group, or Sunday School study

Velma Ruch’s book, first released in 1994, explores the Temple as a focus of a pilgrim people. In addition, it is an excellent guide for preparing to participate in World Conference, whether in person or online. The late author, a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Graceland University and an evangelist, glimpses the potential of a people entrusted by God with stewardship over the Temple and its ministries. This book will be reprinted as a special edition for the 25th anniversary of the Temple dedication. Currently it’s available as an e-book, and later this fall it will be available in print from www.HeraldHouse.org.

Peace Flags

Intergenerational Activity

As we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the Temple in Independence, Missouri, we are inviting the whole church to celebrate by creating colorful peace flags. The flags will represent expressions of the Church Seal and include messages or prayers for peace. Individuals and groups of all ages can create flags. Spend time focusing on peace in Sunday school classes; retreats; youth groups; and gatherings of priesthood, pastor teams, mission center council members, mission center conferences, and congregations.
