Music Calls Us to Celebrate...
The Grace of God
Reading
What wondrous love God has for his children! Jesus Christ came to
earth to show us the way to God. He brought a touch of truth that
lets us see the world in a new way. This gift of God--a gift that
cost much because it cost the life of Jesus Christ--is available to
each of us. But we must e open enough to accept it, or we won't know
that it's being offered.
God's grace gives us the only true life. It changes our lives in
ways we can't anticipate, but in ways that bring us peace we can't
imagine.
God's grace...God's love...what wondrous gifts!

God In All Cultures
Reading
God is not in a box--unless we put him there. If we believe that
God is the God of all, then we must also believe that God works in
and with all cultures.
As a Bantu prayer puts it:
We offer our thanks to you
for sending your only Son to die for us all.
In a world divided by colour bars,
how sweet a thing it is to know
that in you we all belong to one family.

compiler, 2000 Years of Prayer (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania:
Morehouse Publishing, 1999), 583.

The Call of God in the
Restoration
Reading
Music has been a part
of worship from the beginning. David wrote psalms to be sung, and
early Christians sang hymns in their meetings. Then, although music
continued to be an important part of worship, it began to move away
from the congregation and to be provided by a special group--a
choir. But eventually the pendulum moved back, and the congregation
began to sing again.
In our tradition, the
importance of music has been with us from the start. One of Emma
Smith's first responsibilities was to put together a hymnal for the
fledgling church. And in 1887, the church was told, "Let the young
men and the maidens cultivate the gifts of music and of song; let
not the middle-aged and the old forget the gladsomeness of their
youth...and remember that Saints should be cheerful in their warfare
that they may be joyous in their triumph." (Doctrine and Covenants
119:6d)

Disciple's Generous Response
Statement
We give of ourselves in
many ways--through our willingness to donate what we have. For some that
is our gift of talents; for others it is gifts of time, of money, of
ourselves. This morning, we encourage you to offer yourselves in
whatever form that takes--money, commitment of time, willingness to
serve--so that we can continue to tell the good news of Christ.

We Respond to God's Call
Reading
O my people, saith the Spirit,
Hear the word of God today;
Be not slothful but obedient,
'Tis the world's momentous day!
Unto honor I have called you—
Honor great as angels know;
Heed ye, then, a Father's counsel,
And by deeds your purpose show.
Love ye me and love all people—
Love as I have loved you;
This your calling—this my purpose—
Thus be my disciples true.
Then in this exalted station
Your companion I will be;
Every promise of my Scriptures
Will be verified in thee.
Get ye up, then, to your mountain,
Zion of this closing day!
For the glory of my coming
Waits to break upon your way!
Forth from thence your testimony
Shall to trembling nations go,
And the world confess that with you
God has residence below.
