Scripture Dialogue: Colossians 2:7-13 The Inclusive New Testament

HS 475

Reader 1:

Send your roots deep and grow strong in Christ-

Reader 2:

firmly established in the faith you’ve been taught, and full of thanksgiving.

Reader 3:

Make sure that no one traps you and deprives you of your freedom by some secondhand, empty and deceptive philosophy that is based on the principles of the world instead of Christ.

Reader 1:

In Christ the fullness of divinity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you find your own fulfillment-in the One who is the head of every Sovereignty and Power.

Reader 2:

In Christ you have been given the Covenant through a transformation performed not by human hands, but by the complete stripping away of your body of flesh. This is what “circumcision” in Christ means.

Reader 3:

In baptism you were not only buried with Christ but also raised to life,

Reader 1:

because you believed in the power of God who raised Christ from the dead.

Reader 2:

And though you were dead in sin and did not have the Covenant,

Reader 3:

God gave you new life in company with Christ, pardoning all our sins.

Offering Statement (read by candidate)

I believe that God, the Creator and Lord of this universe,
knows and cares for every living person.
I believe that God is revealed to us today
     through the scriptures,
     through our Savior, Jesus Christ,
and through the lives of holy people.

I believe that God has a mission for me,
to minister in God’s name and
to share God’s love and blessings with all people
of my own community and of every race and nation.

I believe that as I give to God my life,
my love, my offerings, and my talents,
God will bring rich meaning into my life
and will use me to help others to a better life in Christ.

*Sending Forth: II Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14 The Living Bible

HS 436

Leader:

I want to remind you to stir into flame the strength and boldness that is in you, that entered into you when I laid my hands upon your head and blessed you. For the Holy Spirit, God’s gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them. If you will stir up this inner power, you will never be afraid to tell others about our Lord. Hold tightly to the pattern of truth… especially concerning the faith and love Christ Jesus offers you. Guard well the splendid, God-given ability you received as a gift from the Holy Spirit who lives within you.

Confirmee:

I go now, renewed with God’s Spirit.

Congregation:

We go now, renewed with God’s spirit.
