Christ as Servant: The
Hospitality of God
Maundy Thursday Service
Prelude
Welcome and Call to Worship
I love you, Adonai, for you have heard
my cry for
mercy.
You have listened to me;
I will call on
you all my days.
How can I repay you, Adonai,
for all your
goodness to me?
I raise the cup of deliverance,
And call on the
Name of Our God.
—Psalm 116:1–2, 12–13 The Inclusive Psalms
Come let us worship and experience the hospitality of
God.

Prayers of Preparation
A number of chairs are placed around the sanctuary.
At the conclusion of the hymn, an elder stands behind each of
the chairs. The congregation is instructed that during the next few
minutes, they may go to one of the prayer locations and ask the elder
to offer a prayer on their behalf. The request can be for a specific
need/concern or general in nature. Be prepared for the sacrament of
administration if it is requested. Prayers should be brief. Music can
be played quietly in the background. People not wanting to go to a
prayer location may spend the time in reflection and prayer. At the
presider’s signal, the introduction of the next hymn will serve as
the closing of the prayer time.

Prayer of Blessing on the Bread and Wine
The Supper
The congregation will come forward to the table to
receive first the bread and then the wine. Priests/elders
should be present behind the table and offer the emblems as people
approach. Have servers prepared to take the bread and wine to anyone
not able to come forward.
