Disciples’ Generous Response
Reflection
Healing can take place anywhere at any time. The
following poem was written after I had suffered a severe nosebleed
at a mountaintop campground. The manager and his wife followed the
ambulance down to the bottom of the mountain where the hospital was
located. J.R. sat next to me during the time I was being treated.
His gift of presence meant the world to me. After I was released J.R.
and Judith took me back to the campground. The firefighters and the
paramedics would stop by occasionally to see how I was doing.
Campers and workers surrounded me with their loving presence. What
greater gift of healing could anyone have?
Come to the healing place
High on the mountaintop,
Where a person can come
And refresh their being,
By looking at the trees
And appreciating their majestic beauty,
By walking down a dirt path
And finding delicate little wildflowers.
Come to the healing place
High on the mountaintop,
Where solitude in the forest
Can be a time of peace and serenity,
A time for reflection
Of one’s inner feelings,
A time for centering
One’s soul.
Come to the healing place
High on the mountaintop,
Where people gather
Reaching out to one another
In a loving and caring way,
Concerned with the well-being of others,
In a special way that will meet
Those who have needs.
Come to the healing place
High on the mountaintop,
Where one can meet the Lord
And feel his Presence,
Within and throughout
All of his creation,
And be able to feel
His gentle healing touch.
