Fully half of our World Ministries Mission Tithes directly support ministry in
the mission fields of the church around the world. In the more than fifty
nations where our members reside and worship, our tithes support our mission as
it is lived out in congregations and the life of each Community of Christ
disciple.
Jim Slauter, president of the Council of Twelve, said, “During the last
inter-Conference period the Council of Twelve, presidents of Seventy, and First
Presidency entered into a discernment process of prayer, study, and reflection
on the role and relationships of the apostle and seventy in our calling to be
special witnesses of Christ’s peace in our world.”
As the process unfolded, new understandings of relationships and roles were
envisioned and key missional priorities for each mission field of the World
Church began to unfold. Jim said, “These priorities are being established and
aligned to support the overall missionary strategies that have been established
in dialogue with the field worldwide.” The priorities are:
- Support of congregational mission and disciple-making ministries
- Church planting ministries
- Young adult ministries/outreach
- Ministries to the marginalized and vulnerable (including ministries to
children and youth)
- Ministries to nondominant culture groups
Jim said, “We are deeply appreciative of the financial support of church members
around the world in response to the church’s missionary opportunities. Your
generous response to the vision of sharing equally in funding local and World
Church mission will be a blessing to people all over the world as we respond to
God’s call to share the peace of Jesus Christ.” The following field updates
provide a “snapshot” of the work that is unfolding and reflect the enthusiasm
being generated as we move out in faithful response to God’s call to all
disciples to share their apostolic witness of God’s peace and engage in
ministries of the peaceable kingdom.
