World Service Corps - Programs

Short Term: 2 to 3 Months

Dates: June through August

Age: 18 years and above

Application Deadline: January 31 

Commitment Fee: $800 USD*

Placement: Volunteers usually assigned in teams of two to serve internationally. Accommodations with host families affiliated with Community of Christ.

Living allowance: Volunteers are unpaid, but receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.

Focus: Cross-cultural sharing, ministry, and service

Long Term: 1 to 2 Years

Dates: Start dates could be any time of the year.

Age: 20 years and above

Application Deadline: Applications accepted at any time. Must allow sufficient time for program selection and preparation processes.   

Commitment Fee: $1,000 USD*

Placement: Volunteers may be assigned individually or in teams to serve internationally. Accommodations with host families or apartment affiliated with Community of Christ.

Living allowance: Volunteers are unpaid, but receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.

Focus: Cross-cultural integration, teaching, ministry, community development, health education, teaching English as a Second Language, and more...

International Guides: 3 Months

Dates: Usually April 1 to July 31

Age: 18 years and above

Application Deadline: January 31 

Commitment Fee: A contribution to WSC from individual, home congregation, or mission center is kindly requested*

Placement: Volunteers assigned to serve at Community of Christ church historic sites in Kirtland, Ohio, or Nauvoo, Illinois, USA, or International Headquarters in Independence, Missouri, USA. Accommodations with host families or apartment affiliated with Community of Christ.

Living allowance: Volunteers are unpaid, but receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.

Focus: International perspective in tour guide services, church history, and local congregations in the USA.

Regional Programs: 2 to 3 months

Dates: Vary by host site

Age: 18 years and above

Application Deadline: January 31 to serve within calendar year

Commitment Fee: Varies*

Placement: Volunteers may be assigned individually or in teams to serve within a geographic region (ex. within the same continent or mission field). Accommodations with host families or apartment affiliated with Community of Christ.

Living allowance: Volunteers are unpaid, but receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.

Focus: Cross-cultural sharing, ministry, and service

Post Career Programs

Dates: Vary by host site and volunteer availability

Age: Post career, or retired, adults

Application Deadline: Applications accepted at any time. Must allow sufficient time for program selection and preparation processes.   

Commitment Fee: In lieu of commitment fee, volunteer is asked to cover individual living expenses.

Placement: Volunteers may be assigned individually or in teams to serve internationally. Accommodations with host families or apartment affiliated with Community of Christ.

Living allowance: Post career adults are kindly asked to provide for the costs of their volunteer experience. This would include flight, daily living expenses, and housing. In some cases, accommodation with host families or an apartment affiliated with Community of Christ is available, which would reduce or eliminate housing expenses for the volunteer. Please contact the WSC coordinator with any questions or concerns.

Focus: Cross-cultural sharing, ministry, and service

Internships: 2 to 3 months

Dates: Vary by host site and volunteer availability; usually June through August.

Age: 18 years and above

Application Deadline: January 31 to serve within calendar year 

Placement: Interns may be assigned individually or in teams. Accommodations with host families affiliated with Community of Christ.

Stipend: Interns are paid a small stipend for their term of service.

Focus: Site-specific administrative and ministerial functions.


*Commitment Fee may change based on program need. The program would give adequate notification of this change to candidates. Selected volunteers are encouraged to fundraise with the help of their home congregation, mission center, community, friends and family to reach the commitment fee. This fee is the volunteer’s monetary commitment to help support the capacity of the World Service Corps program to be able to place volunteers.
