Community of Christ Conference Participants
Build a Home for a Family in Need

Jackson County, MO - Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity and volunteers from the Community of Christ World Conference will build a home together in a week at 725 N. Crysler Ave. in Independence. Join us as we raise the walls on this house on Friday March 23rd at 11:30 am. (Located on the corner of Crysler and Nettleton in Independence—In between Truman Road and 24 Highway on N. Crysler Ave)

Huge numbers of volunteers are expected to turn out this week for the build. We estimate 350-400 volunteers will participate from all over the world. In addition to building a home here in Independence, Habitat will tithe 10% of the funds raised to Habitat Haiti where another 4 homes will be built for families in need overseas. Habitat for Humanity is committed to solving poverty housing both locally and globally.

Iris Hubbard is a single mother/grandmother who works hard and has a good job but still doesn’t make enough to buy her own home through a conventional loan. Habitat was her only chance to give her 2 children and grandchildren a home of their own. Iris will work alongside Community of Christ volunteers and will put in over 350 hours of labor into the construction of her home. She is excited to get started and looking forward to working with the volunteers.

The collaboration between Habitat and the Community of Christ was a natural one. Both ministries are committed to serving the poor and proclaiming Jesus Christ by promoting communities of joy, hope, love and peace. Together they will leave their mark on the community and will leave the Hubbard family a place to call home.

Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity has built 39 homes in the community and partners with churches, businesses, community groups and local government to bring affordable housing to Eastern Jackson County. Habitat builds homes together with the families that will move into them. Once completed the homes are sold to the homeowner family at cost and charged 0% interest on the loan.

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, that unites people of all races, religions and backgrounds to build homes around the world for families in need. Since its inception, HFHI has built more than 250,000 worldwide, providing more than 1.2 million people with affordable shelter.
