Official Minutes of Business Session
Monday, March 26, 2007

The 2007 World Conference convened in legislative session at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007, in the conference chamber of the Auditorium, Independence, Missouri. President Stephen M. Veazey was in the chair.

The assembly sang the hymn “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,” accompanied by Andy Shelton on the organ. A prayer of invocation was offered by Jocelyn Murti of the Pacific Island Mission Center.

Approval of the Minutes
President Veazey called attention to the minutes of the business session of Saturday, March 24, 2007, printed on pages 266–267. The minutes were approved. Glen Barlow rose to a question of privilege.

Conference manager Sue Sloan was then recognized to make several announcements. Mareva Arnaud was recognized for a question of privilege.

Presidents of Seventy
President Veazey referred the assembly to item F-1, “Presidents of Seventy,” on page 288, recommending the setting apart of Ruben D. Landeros and Richard C. N. James as presidents of Seventy and members of the Council of Presidents of Seventy. Robert R. Kyser II moved to approve the recommenda-tion, and a second was received. The recommendations were approved on individual votes. President Veazey noted that provision had been made for the ordination and setting apart on Tuesday night.

World Church Peace and Justice Committee Report
President Veazey relinquished the chair to President Schaal, who directed the assembly to item H-1, “World Church Peace and Justice Committee Report,” on pages 103–105. Committee co-chair Jennifer Robinson was recognized to speak to the report. Gustavo Vergara Rojas rose to a question of privilege. President Schaal then offered a brief statement on Just War, followed by a statement that the First Presi-dency is willing to appoint members to a joint forum between Community of Christ, the Conference of Res-toration Branches, and other appropriate bodies to continue dialogue among these fellowships on matters of mutual interest.

Earth Stewardship Committee Report
President Schaal referred the assembly to item H-2, “Earth Stewardship Committee Report,” on pages 105–107. Committee member Ed Merz was recognized to speak to the report.

Human Rights Committee Report
The Chair directed the assembly to item H-3, “Report of the Human Rights Committee,” on pages 107–111. Committee chair Terry Read was recognized to speak to the report.

World Hunger Committee Report
President Schaal referred the assembly to item H-4, “World Hunger Committee Report,” on pages 111–112. Committee chair President Emeritus Wallace B. Smith was recognized to speak to the report. Tony Trigueros was recognized for a question of privilege.

Dates for Next World Conference
President Schaal relinquished the chair to President Veazey, who called attention to item C-4, “World Conference Interval,” on page 245. President Veazey indicated that the dates were altered from the printed bulletin, changed from April 17–24, 2010, to April 10–17, 2010. Sergio Juarez was recognized for a ques-tion of privilege. Gustavo Vergara Rojas was recognized for a question of privilege. President Veazey di-rected the assembly to the background for consideration of this item, printed on page 245. Apostle Bunda C. Chibwe moved to approve the item, and a second was received. During the discussion, Howard Sheehy was recognized for a point of order, that the item did not include the originating body. The Chair noted that the originating body of the legislation was the First Presidency. Following some discussion, and without ob-jection, President Veazey took the vote on the previous question, which carried by the required two-thirds vote. A vote was then taken on Item C-4, and the motion carried.

Recognition of Translations
President Veazey shared some statistics on the translations efforts involved in this Conference, and the Conference expressed its appreciation.

The assembly sang the hymn “Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God.” Frank Young of the Inland West Mission Center offered a prayer of benediction, and the World Conference adjourned at 4:00 p.m. to meet again at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
