Hello Everyone!

SPEC is just around the corner and we suspect you are each entrenched in all the logistical preparations that are required of you this time of year.  As always, we offer our heartfelt thanks to you for all you do as an invaluable member of the SPEC community.  We are excited about all the possibilities that our theme “We Are” has in store.

There are several important issues we want to draw to your attention.

One is our Wednesday Evening programming.  At 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday the entire SPEC community will meet in the MSC Main Room for what we’re calling “Vespers”.  Our SPECTACULAR apostle, Ron Harmon, will preside over this unique worship service with President, Steve Veazey to bring ministry in preparation for our communion experience.  Upon conclusion of our corporate worship, each delegation will quietly go to their designated area to partake of the communion emblems in a brief delegation worship.  As delegation leader, we recommend that your preparation for this particular evening be simply to provide an introspective environment through music then a brief reading or scriptural focus and then the blessing/serving of the emblems followed by a pastoral prayer.  As in previous years, we will provide you with the bread and wine. This will be a departure from how we’ve done this particular service in the past, but we’re very excited about this direction.

Second thing, we need you to bring a flag that will be representative of your delegation (this can be one you make and decorate).  Flag dimensions are to be 3’ x 5’ with a standard pole sleeve/hem at the top.  Your design should be from the top down. These will be needed for Opening Ceremonies

and will be displayed through the week.  You will be asked at check-in if you have your flag. You will also need to designate a boy/girl from your delegation to accompany the flag to the stage 30 minutes prior to Opening Ceremonies.

There are other exciting changes and improvements in store this year that we know you’ll like.

We hope you sense our excitement!  Our direction, our focus, and our attitude all SPEC week long will be high in energy and lived out in our community experience.  The SPEC Committee has worked throughout the year to provide you and your delegation an environment that we hope will allow you and your staff a unique opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of young people.

We realize in the coming weeks your SPEC preparations will be even more demanding.  We are always available to assist you in whatever ways we can.  Our contact information along with any/all pertinent information surrounding SPECTACULAR ’09 can be found on this website.

Again, thank you so much for all the hard work you put into making your SPEC delegation a reality.  Thank you for being "the light" for so many young women and men.  Please know that you are constantly in our prayers.

Blessings always and in all ways!

Jamie, Travis & Diane

Delegation housing information will be available by July 18, 2009.

Check out the Adventures!

There are a ton of great adventure opportunities for your campers. Direct them to the website to see what activity they might be interested in trying this year!

New Look to the Sport Information

The sports page of the website has a new look. Easier access to all the information you need for your delegation—rules of play, team and individual entry forms, and delegation summary sheet. Take a look!

Worship Opportunities

Again this year is the opportunity to have a communion experience with your delegation on Wednesday night. Details of this experience are outlined in the note posted by the Directors. Remember, SPEC will provide the emblems for your delegation. You'll need to sign up for a worship location at the SPEC office. Also, your evening delegation devotions can be a really important part of the SPEC experience. However, please remember to keep this experience relevant and BRIEF (20-30 minutes tops). A great formula for evening devotions can be found at Evening Devotions Helps.

Updated Schedule

Detailed schedule coming in 2009.

Delegation Laundry

Dear Delegation Leaders,
Lamoni residents are once again offering their services as laundry heroes for the week! Our service buys you freedom from laundering team jerseys for all 5 evenings (Sun.- Thurs.) At just $4.00 per camper for the week, you may also throw in 2 extra items per day (ie. socks, shorts, sports bras). You will be matched up with a lovely person from the Lamoni community who will provide you with a distinctive basket or box in which to leave your laundry in the lobby of your dorm by 10:30 each evening. By 11:00 the next morning, the basket will magically reappear full of clean jerseys! What could be easier?
If you are interested in this wonderful service- please contact Sandy Ranney by JULY 1st (email or call 641-784-3840). I'll need your delegation name, and the number of males and females (including staff) to do laundry for. Of course, on your arrival, I'll need a check made out to: Lamoni Community of Christ.
Hope to hear from you soon!! Sandy Ranney
