Ministry Helps
for Single Adults
-
Be sensitive to language used when people are invited to be
part of a
congregational activity.
-
Plan holiday activities or invitations so singles and single
parent families can
celebrate with others.
-
Help singles get together with families and other single
adults for after
church dinner on Sunday.
-
Plan fun events with single adults around their interests:
dinners out, concerts
or plays, ski trips, canoe trips.
-
Plan service projects with single adults around their
interests: rehab a neighborhood park, city cleanup, build a Habitat for Humanity house, clean up a stream,
be advocates for children.
-
Plan classes and support groups with single adults around
interests and needs: parenting, divorce recovery, coping with grief, or around a hobby.
-
Be sure single adults are part of the ministry and
decision-making groups of the congregation.
-
In gatherings, remember odd-numbered groups are fine!
-
Listen with sensitivity to the experience of single adults.
How Can We Plan Better Ministry?
-
Gather information: Who are the single adults in your
area?
-
Talk with any singles you can to get ideas and determine
interests and needs.
-
Talk with your pastor or other administrator for guidance
and support.
-
Plan activities and ministries with the help and guidance
of singles and other key leaders.
-
Read books about singles ministry to benefit from the
experiences of others.

How to Build an Exciting Singles Ministry
by Don Davidson
If You Are
You Could Be a Great Singles' Leader!
(From How To Build An Exciting Singles
Ministry, 27-28.)
You might be the one to spark a vital singles' ministry in your congregation
or area--or maybe you already have! Just Like people, no two singles
ministries look quite the same. Talk with other singles, talk with church
leaders in your congregation or area, and be sure to talk with the World Church
Singles Ministries! If we share ideas, resources, news of events, and
support for one another, singles ministry will grow throughout the church!
