Insurance Coverages
The cost of losses to the church can be retained or transferred to others.
The primary method of transferring the costs of losses is through the purchase
of insurance. Community of Christ and our affiliates purchase insurance to cover
many eventualities as a method of financing our losses. We use the services of a
broker to help us evaluate the market and find the most advantageous policy
terms available. Important factors to consider when purchasing insurance
protection are: the scope of the coverage, the retention or deductible the
church will keep, the dollar limit of the coverage, the premium to be charged,
the length of time the coverage will be in effect, and the financial stability
of the insurer.
The church insures its buildings and contents under our property program,
and carries travel and accident policies to protect our ministers. We purchase
general liability insurance and numerous policies to cover specific liabilities
arising out of our activities.
