Priesthood Letter
from President Stephen Veazey

To all superannuated priesthood in Australia, British Isles, Canada, and the United States:

As I sign priesthood licenses authorizing individuals to represent Community of Christ in ministry, I appreciate all those who have accepted priesthood responsibility. I am especially reminded of those who have served the church faithfully in ministry throughout the years.

While shaping the words that became Doctrine and Covenants Section 163, I was prompted by God to focus on the nature and potential of priesthood today. Because of this I am inviting active priesthood members to explore prayerfully Doctrine and Covenants 163:6a–d. Also, I am inviting priesthood to reflect about and talk with their pastor, mission center, quorum, order, or council leadership about how to further develop their gifts for ministry in response to the needs of the faith community.

The First Presidency and the Priesthood Faithfulness Team are working on updated priesthood-faithfulness principles and guidelines to support priesthood in ministry. These principles include discernment, preparation, a plan for ministry, and commitment to lifelong learning and ministerial development. When completed, we will share this material with the church.

As part of your continuing response, I ask that you prayerfully uphold and encourage the priesthood members and pastors in your congregation and mission center. Your experience, wisdom, encouragement, and presence are important examples that foster faithful ministry. I also ask that you uphold church leaders around the world as they share plans for carrying out faithful priesthood ministry principles.

Once again, I am deeply grateful for your life of service and for your commitment to the ministry of the priesthood members in Community of Christ. I pray that Christ’s peace continues to bless the ministry you offer.

In the peace of Christ,

Stephen M. Veazey, president
