Invitation

Good afternoon.  I welcome you to this time of worship and prayer in the name of Jesus Christ whose peace we seek for all creation.

Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, reconciliation and healing of the spirit, we pray for peace and uphold one of the nations of the world.

Today we remember the people of Jordan in our prayers.  Jordan is a kingdom located on the East Bank of the River Jordan in the Middle East and joined the United Nations as an independent sovereign state in 1946.  Jordan has been classified as a country of high human development and is considered a high middle income economy.  The Jordanian Government is one of only three members of the Arab League to have diplomatic relations with Israel.  The government continues to be challenged by a growing population, the emergence of a variety of new political parties, and acts of violence and terrorism related to the occupation of the West Bank.

We recognize the need for God’s peace in our lives and in our world.  As we unite in worship and prayer, let us also be renewed in our commitment to pursue justice and peace for the people of Jordan, all nations and all creation.

God of all—
Sometimes we feel caught
in a vortex of chaos—
natural disasters
wars
family problems
and we wonder…

We trust you—
yet we feel
lost
confused
bitter
angry
and we wonder…

We lash out at each other—
creating more violence
instead of healing
and we wonder…

God of all—
Remind us
that you love each one of us…
that we are members of one family in you…
that if we want to be forgiven
we must forgive.
Give us patience
and wisdom.
Help us break the cycles
of violence
and hate.
May we who claim the name of Christ
live it out in our world…
in all places
times
situations.

God of all—
