In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I welcome all who have gathered in this sacred place and all who join us in prayer. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray for peace and uphold one of the nations of the world. Today we lift up the people of the United Arab Emirates in our prayers. Located in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates were seven sheikdoms which combined to form a federation in 1971. Its generosity with oil revenues and its moderate foreign policy stance have allowed it to play a vital role in the affairs of the region. The UAE has become a major international business center and one of the most stable and untroubled countries in the Arab world. Future prosperity may be threatened by a more basic problem which is water. The UAE is the highest consumer of water per capita in the world, and the groundwater levels have fallen 30m (100ft) in 30 years. Together with brothers and sisters around the world, we join in a common desire for peace within and among the people of all nations. May God’s spirit of peace bless and enhance our time of worship and prayer. |
Scripture Reading |
And Christ came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through Christ we both have access in one Spirit to God. So then we are no longer strangers and sojourners, but are citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. Through Christ we are reconciled to God and to each other. |
Prayer for Peace |
I seek a heart that is attuned to listen to the sounds of human life - the murmurings of pain and struggle, the babble of confusion and doubt, the whispering of yearnings, the ecstatic outburst of joy and delight. I seek a heart with an interior vision that "sees" beyond the exterior - the peacefulness of a life well spent, the prayerfulness of the quiet, the agony of the fearful, the loneliness of the complainer. |
