Invitation

Good afternoon.  I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ and welcome you to    this time of worship and prayer for peace.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray for peace and uphold one of the nations of the world.

Today we remember the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in our prayers.  Located off the northwestern coast of Europe, the United Kingdom has great economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence in the world and pursues a global approach to foreign policy.

Constitutional reform is a significant issue, and regional assemblies with varying degrees of power opened in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland in 1999.  Community of Christ was established in the United Kingdom in 1837.

As brothers and sisters in one global, human family, we unite in prayer and in a common desire for peace in our world.  Let our hearts and minds be open to learn of the nature of God’s peace that is for all creation.

Scripture Reading
Romans 12:18 NIV

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Prayer for Peace
— Ralph Holmes, Nottinghamshire, England

Our most gracious God, as we meet together to bring our devotions, we praise your Holy Name and give thanks for your abiding presence in our lives.

We live in a beautiful world, created for our pleasure and joy, but because of sicknesses of mind and body; because of selfishness and greed, there is physical, mental and spiritual hunger and poverty abroad.

We pray not only for the absence of conflict but also for the presence of your Spirit among the nations.  We look to you, O God, as our source of strength and power to show us the way of peace, that as instruments in your hands, we, your people, may be used as agents of peace.

May there be a greater understanding by those in authority of the needs of your people everywhere; that your Holy Spirit might empower and stir them to strive towards unity under the banner of your love.  Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.

The People Pray in Silence

We confess our sins which separate us from you and from each other.  Forgive us, we humbly pray, and lead us in paths of grace, healing and peace.

The People Pray in Silence

We uphold for your blessing the nation and people of the United Kingdom.  We are aware of inequalities in our world. Touch the lives of world leaders so they will make wise decisions to benefit all nations, not just their own.

The People Pray in Silence

We thank you and praise you for the gift of our Lord Jesus, for love that sustains us, for wisdom that directs us, and for desire that beckons us toward peace in our world.
