Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of Candle

Invitation

We light the peace candle as a symbol of our commitment to pursue the peace of Christ that is for all creation.  Welcome to this time of worship and prayer for peace.

Each day in this Temple, dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray for peace within and with one another, and uphold the nations of the world.

Today we remember the people of Barbados in our prayers.  Barbados is an island nation located between the Caribbean and the North Atlantic Ocean.  It has a stable democracy and a relatively prosperous economy, which is centered primarily around tourism and sugar production.  The West Indian culture strongly influences family life, food and music.

As we unite in worship and prayer, we celebrate God’s promise of peace that is for the people of Barbados, all nations, and all creation.

Scripture Reading
Romans 12:1-5 INT

Sisters and brothers, I beg you through the mercy of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.  Don’t conform yourselves to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your minds, so that you can judge what God’s will is—what is good, pleasing and perfect.  In light of the grace I have from God, I urge each of you not to exaggerate your own importance.  Each of you must judge yourself soberly by the standard of faith God has given you.  Just as each of us has one body with many members—and these members don’t have the same function – so all of us, in union with Christ, form one body.  And as members of that one body, we belong to each other.

Prayer for Peace
— Denver Congregation, Denver, Colorado, USA

Eternal Parent of all creation . . . . . countries. . . . . oceans. . . . . seas. . . . . plains. . . . . mountains. . . . . peoples;  you have blessed your children throughout history and have extended your love and grace to all.  No one is outside your spirit of love and compassion.

Help us express your peace, not only in words but in deeds and actions.  Help us be courageous and let our fears neither divide us, nor keep us from joining with those from different cultures.

Please help us find peace within ourselves and others, being always mindful of how our thoughts and actions impact those around us.  We humbly ask your forgiveness for any pain or anguish we have caused.  We thank you for your faithfulness and seek Thy presence to become aware of your directing guidance for all humanity.

Help us continue Thy work, accepting our differences and growing stronger together on our Peace journey.

In Thy Holy Name, Amen.
