Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of Candle

Invitation

In the name of Christ, I welcome all who are gathered here and all who join us in prayer from around the world who are represented by the empty seats among us.

Each day in this Temple, dedicated to the pursuit of peace, reconciliation and healing of the spirit, we pray for peace and uphold one of the nations of the world.

Today we remember the people of Ireland in our prayers.  Located in Western Europe, Ireland is an island off the coast of Great Britain.  After decades of war between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, there is finally the promise of peace.  The Irish Republic Army ended its armed campaign in mid-2005. A power-sharing agreement was successfully instituted in May 2007. The economy continues to grow, creating challenges with increased immigration and pressure on Ireland’s welfare and transport infrastructure.

As we recognize the need for Christ’s peace in our lives, may we also be renewed in our calling to be people of God’s holistic and healing peace which is for the people of all nations, and for all creation.

Scripture Reading
Doctrine and Covenants 163:2a

Jesus Christ, the embodiment of God’s shalom, invites all people to come and receive divine peace in the midst of the difficult questions and struggles of life. Follow Christ in the way that leads to God’s peace and discover the blessings of all of the dimensions of salvation….The restoring of persons to healthy or righteous relationships with God, others, themselves, and the earth is at the heart of the purpose of your journey as a people of faith.

Prayer for Peace
— Darlene Caswell, Independence, Missouri, USA

Our Gracious Lord and Friend,
We seek you in the silence, because you speak to our hearts.
We seek you in your magnificent world, because we have so much to learn.
We seek you through all people, because we need to discover the ways of peace.
We seek you in our work, because you call us to serve.
Accept our praise for your gracious goodness.
Bless our best desires and yearnings for peace as we are guided to discover your ways.
We pray in the spirit of the Prince of Peace.   Amen.

The People Pray in Silence

We lament the causes of injustice and seek enlightenment that we may understand better our part in peace for the world.  We confess that we are less than you created us to be and humbly ask forgiveness.

The People Pray in Silence

We pray for the nation of Ireland and its people.   We give thanks for your healing spirit at work among these people, and pray that we may all learn from their efforts of reconciliation and peace.

The People Pray in Silence

We acknowledge our need for your holistic and healing peace in our lives, our homes, our communities and our world.  May we find blessing in your presence of peace and strive to be a blessing of peace to others.

The People Pray in Silence

Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
