Invitation

In the name of Jesus Christ, whose peace we seek within, with one another and for all creation, I welcome you to this time of worship and prayer for peace.

Each day in this Temple, dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray for peace and uphold one of the nations of the world.

Today we remember the people of Mexico in our prayers.  Located in North America, Mexico has a culture that places great value on family and relationships.  As a result of great economic disparity and poverty, many have migrated to other countries to find means for supporting themselves and their families.  Violence and corruption at the hands of drug cartels cause much unrest throughout the nation.  The government has enacted strict measures to improve environmental concerns and boost the economy.  Community of Christ was established in Mexico in 1964.

We join with brothers and sisters in Mexico, and all nations, as we seek just, lasting and holistic peace for the people of all communities.

Scripture Reading
Mark 1:32, 34-38, adapted

…at sundown, they brought to [Jesus] all who were sick or possessed with demons…And he cured many who were sick with various diseases…In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed…when [Simon and his companions] found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.”  He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.”

Prayer for Peace
— Juan López, Guadalajara, (Jalisco) México

Dear God,
We are before your presence to ask your forgiveness of our sins and ask you to bless our people.  Especially I ask that you bless my country, Mexico . . . a noble and ancient people who are downtrodden by social, moral and economic injustice, and who do not know the benefits of liberty and democracy.  Neither do they know the full glory of the teaching of our son Jesus Christ, false doctrine and ignorance having taken from us hope.  As a nation, we have lost faith.

Our Father, pour your spirit over my people.  Help us to conquer the shadows.  Comfort our souls.  Give us strength to be doers of the Work and to take with your teachings: faith, hope and charity, as well as physical and spiritual peace, which our people, your people, need.

This we implore in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amén.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the “Prayers of the People. During the moments of quiet, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.

O God, come into the brokenness of our lives and our land with your healing love.  Guide us as we strive to be your presence of reconciling and restoring peace in all the world.

The People Pray in Silence

By the fire of your Holy Spirit melt our hard hearts, forgive our sins, and consume the pride and prejudice which separate us.  Fill us, O Lord, with your perfect love which casts out fear, and bind us together in Divine unity.

The People Pray in Silence

We uphold the nation and people of Mexico and seek for them, and for all peoples, your blessing of peace.  May their leaders have the courage to find solutions to the issues of corruption and violence.  We pray for opportunities of meaningful and dignified work for those who seek to provide for themselves and their families.

The People Pray in Silence

We pray for all interfaith initiatives, and all occasions which bring together people of different traditions and customs. May we teach each other of the peace we find as we journey together in acceptance and love.

The People Pray in Silence

Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

The People Pray in Silence

We pray these things in the name of Christ.  Amen.
