Brothers Serve through Prayer

The Daily Prayer for Peace isn’t reserved for gray-haired men and women. All ages are welcome!

So Sharon Clothier, who attends the East Alton congregation in Independence, Missouri, requested that teenagers Tim and William from her congregation be included. She felt they would do well because of their strong participation in their home congregation. In 2004 they joined the team of volunteers and have led the prayers monthly.

Their mother, Sherri, helped the boys when they were 11 and 12 years old. Tim and William are home-schooled, allowing them the flexibility to share their gifts in the 1 p.m. (Central Standard Time) services at the Temple.

Ask why they pray for peace, and they resoundingly answer that it’s because they believe in the power of prayer and being connected with God. The one thing they would give up, however, is “dressing up.”

Still, the choice to continue prayers at the Temple is easy for the young men. They enjoy public speaking and appreciate the service’s spiritual influence. With parents who love serving God, they feel they have had excellent examples. Tim said that youth leaders also have been exemplary.

Tim also is involved in youth camps, and last year he attended SPECTACULAR for the first time. He said he felt a strong sense of unity in the community there. He also is excited about working with Habitat for Humanity.

William, meanwhile, finds strength and wisdom in fasting and tries to relate to his world through sacrifice. He is an author and likes to write lyrics for peace-building to be used with music.

The Daily Prayer for Peace began in December 1993 and continues as a ministry of the Temple. If you or someone you know would like to be involved, please contact Nadine Stallbaumer at (816) 833-1000, ext. 2428 or nstallbaumer@CofChrist.org. All ages are appreciated!\
