Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

Welcome today to this sacred
place as we gather to worship, and thank you for joining us in this
sanctuary. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we
pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will lift up the people of Peru in our prayers. Located in
South America, Ancient Peru was the seat of several prominent Andean
civilizations, most notably that of the Incas. Today Peru ranks among
the world's top ten producers of silver, copper, lead, and zinc. Its
petroleum industry is one of the world's oldest, and its fisheries are
among the world's richest. After a dozen years of military rule, Peru
returned to democratic leadership in 1980, but experienced economic
problems and the growth of a violent insurgency. The main threat to
domestic stability remains unemployment and poverty, despite Peru's
fast-growing economy. Community of Christ has been established in Peru
since 1965.
Now, let us contemplate the symbol found in the candle of peace, for
Christ is our peace. In Christ, God made all one and broke down the
dividing wall between them to create out of us a new humanity, thereby
making peace. So Christ came and proclaimed the good news; peace to you
who were afar off, and peace to those nearby. |

Hear, O my people, I am Jesus Christ of
whom you have sung and testified and in whose name you pray. I am the
spirit of love and peace which is in the world and yet not known by the
world. |

Prayer for Peace by Nancylee Pfeiffer,

Our Creator,
Some say that Peace is just a dream.
A promise from God to the human family.
We can keep that promise close to heart, or throw it to the wind.
If all the dreamers of the world were focused to this cause,
I'm sure our dream could change to Word, the same as the Son of God.
With peace, and love, and charity, and an outstretched hand, humankind
could live arm and arm, with Peace throughout all lands. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We thank you, God, for your many blessings; for friends,
family, and those who give particular meaning to our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for Peru, its leaders and people. Let your healing spirit move
among the people of Peru, especially those victimized by poverty and
violence. Be with the peacemakers as they work to build a country where
there is peace and justice for all. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for all who are oppressed by poverty, disease, exploitation, and
prejudice. May all realize their worth as your children. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings. In your mercy, we ask forgiveness
for our sins. Let us also pray now for the special concerns and needs of
those who are gathered here this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service for today with Ministry of
Music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Now may the God of peace, and love, and hope, be with you as you go from
this place to create peace. We are called to be the peacemakers in our
world. Let us be true to our calling. Amen. |
