Call to Prayer

We greet you in the name of the
God who has called us to peace. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the
pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition,
each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Kuwait in our prayers. Kuwait is
located in the Middle East. With large oil reserves, Kuwait has built
and maintained a petroleum sector. Ten percent of oil revenues are, by
law, put into a trust to prepare for the day that Kuwait's massive oil
reserves dry up.
Thank you for joining us in this time of prayer. It is good to take the
time from our busy day to remember the needs of the world, and pray for
the peace that will unite all peoples as one. |

| Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:31-5:2 NRSV |
| |
Put away from you all bitterness and wrath
and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be
kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in
Christ has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved
children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for
us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. |

Prayer for Peace by Mirriam Mann, North

Eternal God of truth and light, we need to grow
spiritually through Your word. Give us a willing heart and mind to
receive it. We thank you for the knowledge and testimonies of your
prophets in every age. They have strengthened our faith. We thank you
for the Divine Spirit which works in us the desire to know and to do
Your will.
We thank you for the Christ who, with our consent, remakes us into His
image. We thank you that He revealed to us your action and through all
things, and that you want to prosper us in our journey back to you.
We thank you for the great beauty and utility of the earth you have
created for us. You are our only hope for the sick and suffering society
now living upon it. Continue to strengthen us as we spread the “good
news” of Christ’s love and forgiveness to them. We ask for an increase
in the faith of the church and that many needs will soon be met.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We thank you, God, for your many blessings; for friends,
family, and those who give particular meaning to our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings. In your mercy, we ask forgiveness
for things left undone or for things which hurt another. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask your blessing for those who are oppressed by poverty, disease,
exploitation, and prejudice. May each of us realize the worth of another
and not add to the distress of anyone. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray particularly for the nation and people of Kuwait this day. May
they know that you are the God of all nations and the Parent of all
peoples. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lift up for your blessing the special concerns of those gathered here
this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

Hear our prayers, O God. Today we offer ourselves as instruments of your
peace. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
Let us remember to be God's people in our world, thereby making a
positive statement for peace in our time. God will bless us as we seek
to fulfill divine purposes. |
