Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer

Welcome today to the quiet of
this sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of
peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we
pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Turkey in our prayers. Turkey is
located in Southeastern Europe with one foot in Europe and the other in
the Middle East. This is a rapidly modernizing country with oriental
splendour, mystery, and is filled with history growing into a pacy
present. The Turkish people have an unrivalled reputation for
hospitality, and with wonderful cuisine, a beautiful coastline, and many
cities dotted with spectacular mosques and castles.
Come, let us bow down to the Lord, our Creator. In the stillness of this
short time, may our thoughts center on our purpose for gathering, the
prayers of the people for peace throughout the world. Thank you for
joining us today. |

| Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-17 INT |
| |
Because you are God’s chosen ones, holy and
beloved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt compassion, with kindness,
humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another; forgive
whatever grievances you have against one another—forgive in the same way
God has forgiven you. Above all else, put on love, which binds the rest
together and makes them perfect.
Let Christ’s peace reign in your hearts since, as members of one body,
you have been called to that peace. Dedicate yourselves to thankfulness.
Let the Word of Christ, rich as it is, dwell in you. Instruct and
admonish one another wisely. Sing gratefully to God from your hearts in
psalms, hymns and songs of the Spirit. And whatever you do, whether in
speech or in action, do it in the name of Jesus our Savior, giving
thanks to God through Christ. |

Prayer for Peace by William C. Dawson, West
Branch, Michigan |
| |
Great God, Sustainer of life,
Who holds the world, and feels its strife,
Who sees the human creation; all,
And weeps when mankind starts to fall.
Hold us, sustained by Love above,
Create within us Your power and love,
Lead us by revelation's power,
May we see Your vision for this hour.
You hold the world in Your hand,
All creation is but sand,
Running through this present time;
Remake our human spirits sublime.
With Your grace, we seek to renew,
With trust and faith, let us pursue,
The calling yet held out to man,
To bring Your Peace to all the land.
May we with humble voices pray,
And seek Thy Presence here this day. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of All Persons, we praise you and worship you and
give thanks for our bountiful blessings. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess our shortcomings and ask your forgiveness for those times we
have not been the persons you created us to be. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember the lonely, the oppressed, the victims of greed, and those
who have not. Help us to be aware of times we can share our bounty,
whether it is a kind word or material wealth. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember today our Muslim brothers and sisters in Turkey who repeat
your name of grace, in their fasting, their praying, and their
almsgiving with faith and piety. May all people everywhere have the
light of your Spirit to illumine the way of love and peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We hold up before you the concerns of people
gathered here this day. Give us guidance we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our
community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held
up to God for prayerful consideration. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our collective prayers as we pray in the name of the Prince of
Peace, that His peace may become the peace of this world. Amen. |
| |
