Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
In the quiet, simple dignity of
this place we gather to worship. Each day in this Temple dedicated to
the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In
addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Somalia in our prayers. Located in
East Africa, the Somalis are one of the most homogenous peoples in
Africa, but unity is thwarted by violent, clan-based rivalries. Although
it has no government at present, a fledgling Peoples' Assembly was
established in July of 2000 under the supervision of the United Nations.
In southern Somalia, the absence of a government means declining health
and increasing poverty.
We come here today with many differing needs, many unique strengths, but
with one common desire: to become more effective in our service in the
Cause of peace. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 163:4a |
| |
God, the Eternal Creator, weeps for the
poor, displaced, mistreated, and diseased of the world because of their
unnecessary suffering. Such conditions are not God’s will. Open your
ears to hear the pleadings of mothers and fathers in all nations who
desperately seek a future of hope for their children. Do not turn away
from them. For in their welfare resides your welfare. |

Prayer for Peace by Pam Robison, Independence,
Missouri |
| |
We call you many names--
God
Allah
Great Spirit--
and sometimes we forget we are all part of the same family.
We call our homes by different names--
America
Bosnia
Japan
Fiji
and focus on the boundaries that separate us.
Help us to see the world from your perspective--
remind us of the view we have seen from space--
one planet
with divisions only of land - sky - ocean.
Creator--
Our thoughts are on the things that unite us.
Let us not focus on boundaries or divisions.
Help us rejoice in our diversity--
knowing that you have made each of us a unique creation.
Loving Parent--
Draw us closer to you.
Enfold us in your arms.
Grant us the peace of a family united in one goal--
the peaceable kingdom
Long prayed for, Long hoped for. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
In the midst of daily duties, in deep awareness of
personal problems, in the midst of world issues that threaten to destroy
us we bow our heads in gratitude that we have been counted worthy to
bear the burdens of peace in our day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We sense the awesome purity of God's holiness and we long to be truly
free from the stain of sin. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We end our service today with ministry of music. You are
invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for as
long as you may wish.
As you leave this time of worship, go with quickened step assured that
God with you. Let your walk speak the testimony in your heart. Let your
words declare the joy of your walk. Amen. |
