Welcome to this sacred place, and thank you
for coming to join us in worship today.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will remember the people of Myanmar in our prayers. Located in
Southeastern Asia, Myanmar is an ethnic melting pot. The country
includes Myanmar and Shan rice farmers, Chin and Kachin slash-and-burn
farmers, Arakanese fishermen, and Karen tribespeople. Independence from
Britain in 1948 was followed by isolationism and socialism. Myanmar is a
resource-rich country with a strong agricultural base, and is a leading
producer of gems, jade, and teak. However, military rule prevents the
economy from developing, and the Burmese people remain poor and are
becoming more so.
With the psalmist we say, "Give ear to our words, O Lord; consider our
meditation. Hearken unto the voice of our cry, our God, for unto thee
will we pray." |

Humble yourselves, and continue in prayer
to him; cry to him when you are in your fields…cry to him in your
houses, and over all your household, morning, midday, and evening….But
this is not all; you must pour out your souls in your closets, and your
secret places, and in your wilderness. And when you do not cry to the
Lord, let your hearts be full, drawn out in prayer to him continually
for your welfare, and also for the welfare of those who are around you. |

Prayer for Peace by M. Carolyn Dollins,
Hartshorne, Oklahoma |
| |
Yes, Lord, You are a great God. We desire to be at one
with You and become fit to accomplish the great work you have entrusted
to our care. Draw near to us now, as we draw near to you.
Lord, our prayer is for strength:
Strength that does not dispel the energy of hope or shadow the vision of
peace.
Strength that does not diminish desires for peace nor frustrate efforts
to obtain it.
Strength that is peacefully firm and does not become domineering.
Strength to uphold ideals of peace and the boldness to live those ideals
in our many communities.
Strength that supports respect and understanding of our many
differences.
For these strengths we pray in the name of Your Son, Jesus the Christ.
Amen. |

moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
O God, we praise you for this day and its blessings. We
thank you for our family and friends, for abilities to earn our daily
bread, and for the gift of Jesus, our Christ, who ever leads us toward
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We come before you in repentance of our sins. Help us to be ever more
aware of those things we should omit from our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We especially ask your blessing on the nation of Myanmar and its people.
Guide them and give them courage to seek peace. May we all learn to
trust each other. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We are aware of inequalities in our world. Touch the lives of world
leaders so that they will make wise decisions to benefit all nations and
bring forth justice. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We also ask your blessing on the concerns and needs of all gathered here
this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
