Call to Prayer

Good afternoon, and thank you
for joining us today for prayer in this sacred place. Each day in this
Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in
our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Mongolia in our prayers. Located in
Northern Asia, Mongolia won its independence from China in 1921.
Mongolia was founded as a communist country in 1924, but in 1990 the
communists dropped their monopoly, and multiparty elections were held.
The nation elected its first noncommunist government in 1996. While the
country now has a ruling democratic coalition, independence has cost
them dearly. Currently they are suffering from a lack of infrastructure
and support, and a couple of harsh winters have decimated herds and
brought the country to near starvation. The Mongolian way of life is
nomadic and intimately connected with the ways of animals.
Let us unite as one in our desires for peace. Let us pray as one as we
seek Divine blessing on our thoughts. Let us work as one in our actions
of peace and justice for our time. Come, Lord Jesus, be our guide and
guard. |

The body is one, even though it has many
parts; all the parts—many though they are—comprise a single body. And so
it is with Christ. It was by one Spirit that all of us, whether we are
Jews or Greeks, slaves or citizens, were baptized into one body. All of
us have been given to drink of the one Spirit. And that Body is not one
part; it is many. If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it;
if one member is honored, all the members share its joy. You, then, are
the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it. |

Prayer for Peace by Gary McDonald, Blue
Springs, Missouri |

Dear Heavenly Parent,
Make us instruments of your peace. Let us realize in our heart of
hearts, and know in our minds that peace can be achieved only through
people.
Let every single living person desire peace in their hearts, peace in
their families, peace in their communities, and peace between nations.
Lord, let us realize that peace depends upon each one of us putting into
action the art of peace.
The art of peace is putting the power of good will to work.
Lord, help us mature in our human relationships to see that peace is
sanity and common sense.
Peace is open-mindedness. It is a willingness to listen. It is looking
at both sides of a situation objectively.
Lord, let us be patient. Let us keep our tempers from rising. Let us
rise above petty irritations.
Let us avoid hasty and impulsive deicisions.
Give us courage and the humility to admit mistakes and to take the blame
when we are wrong.
Lord, grant us vision to see possibilities.
Let us be willing to give and forgive.
Let us be willing to place the common good above our individual desires.
Let us see above all that you are that peace. Allow us a mighty faith in
your divine goodness and in our own potential.
Let us see that in Jesus is the peace that passes all understanding.
In Jesus’ Holy name we pray. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
O God, Creator, Redeemer, and Friend, we thank you that
we may be together to worship and praise you for your plentiful goodness
toward us. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We are all equal before you, but sometimes act in a manner that belies
that fact. Forgive us, we humbly pray, and guide us into paths of
justice and peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the people of Mongolia, seeking to live out their faith in
daily life. May they continue in their work to bring peace and justice
to the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We raise up before you our personal cares and concerns. Hear us we ask,
and fit a blessing to our needs, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We thank you for all signs of growing trust between nations, leaders of
nations, and leaders of religions. May we all learn peace, as we pray in
the name of the Prince of Peace. Amen. |
