Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of God
who calls us to peace, and welcome to this time of prayer. Each day in
this sacred place, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition,
each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will lift up the people of Monaco in our prayers. Located in
western Europe, economic development was spurred in the late 19th
century with a railroad linkup to France and the opening of a casino.
The principality's mild climate and splendid scenery have made Monaco
world famous as a tourist and recreation center. Prince Rainier's rule
has modernized Monaco and weaned it from its dependence on gambling
revenue. Tourism is now the backbone of the economy. The principality
was admitted to the United Nations as a full member in 1993.
For your peace, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.
For the peace of the world, for the well-being of all peoples, and for
the safety of all, let us pray to the Lord.
For our mental, spiritual, and physical well-being, let us pray to the
Lord. |

May the God of hope fill you with such
peace and joy in your faith, that you may be filled with hope by the
power of the Holy Spirit. |

Prayer for Peace by Lu Mountenay,
Independence, Missouri |

Creator God,
We come as a community aware of your presence which unites us and
thankful for your Spirit which makes us one.
As we anticipate your guidance and prepare for your participation in our
work, may all we do demonstrate our faith in the possibility of the
peaceable kingdom.
May we be enthused with the message that war and death hold no permanent
dominion over us because of your sacrificial lamb.
May we increase our witness so that peace in our heart spills out into
the world. May we have the courage to speak out against war; and may our
faith be rewarded by the support of peacemakers everywhere.
Our trust is in you and your ways. We know it will happen. Yea,
Lord...we believe!
Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
As we are together, praying for peace, let us be truly
with each other. Let us be aware of the source of being common to us all
and to all living things. We praise you, Great God. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Evoking the presence of the Great Compassion, let us fill our hearts
with our own compassion—towards ourselves and towards all living beings.
Let us pray that all persons realize they are brothers and sisters, all
nourished from the same source of life. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We especially remember Monaco at this time. May they share peace with
others, and may each person be able to call on you "God." |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Let us pray that we ourselves cease to be the cause of suffering to each
other. Let us learn to live in a way which will not deprive other living
beings of air, water, food, shelter, or the chance to live. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
With humility, with awareness of the existence of life, and of the
sufferings that are going on around us, let us pray for the
establishment of peace in our hearts and on earth. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
May we learn of peace and justice and share it throughout our world.
Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
And now, Great God, direct us and guide us into paths of peace, for we
truly desire to be peacemakers and peacekeepers. |
