Welcome today to this sacred place. Each day in this
Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in
our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember up the people of Malaysia in our prayers.
Malaysia is located in Asia and is a multicultural society, with Malays,
Chinese, and Indians living side by side. Although its history goes back
10,000 years, the creation of modern Malaysia goes back only to the 19th
century with the creation of the Federated Malay States. The country of
Malaysia was formally established in 1963 with the combination of Sabah,
Sarawak, and Singapore, but Singapore withdrew from the confederation in
1965. There have been periodic confrontations between Malaysia and
Indonesia as well as between various ethnic groups, although those
tensions seem to have eased.
Christ, our Lord, calls all who love him to earnestly repent of their
sin and live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our
sin to God and be at peace within ourselves. Then we can truly worship
in word and song. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants
162:3a-b |
| |
You are called to create pathways in the
world for peace in Christ to be relationally and culturally incarnate.
The hope of Zion is realized when the vision of Christ is embodied in
communities of generosity, justice, and peacefulness. Above all else,
strive to be faithful to Christ’s vision of the peaceable Kingdom of God
on earth. Courageously challenge cultural, political, and religious
trends that are contrary to the reconciling and restoring purposes of
God. Pursue peace. |

Prayer for Peace by Roxann Rice, Independence,
Missouri |

O God, we thank you for your ever-present vigil in our
lives.
As you walk with us this day, our spirits are stirred, for there are
persons in this world who are in need of your love and protection.
It is during this time that peace becomes our cry--peace instead of
war--peace instead of suffering--peace instead of doubt.
We consider the cause of peace and where it must begin-- here, Savior,
within us as you reside. Resolve the personal turmoil among your
children.
Guide us, O God, O that peace within us--that which you have called for
us to seek since the beginning.
Now, we hear you and remember to watch. That stay of peace within us is
our prayer. Bring to us that higher understanding. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
When the Psalmist exclaimed about God, "Thou art greatly
to be praised" he was talking from experience. Out of our experience let
us voice our praise to God. |

New encounters with God bring fresh awareness of God's call to move into
new ways of living. Leaving is never easy but especially difficult when
we are comfortable where we are. God, help us to risk new ventures. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
The people of Malaysia work and play, eat and sleep, dream of peace as
they long for freedom from threats of violence. Watch over them, we ask. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would also remember the concerns of this gathered people as we bring
before you our personal cares and hopes. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

God, sometimes our human problems seem to
create impossible barriers. Our souls wilt, our spirits droop. Help us
to support and encourage each other. May the word of encouragement and
the sustaining prayer be our gifts to you today. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We will conclude our service today with Ministry of
Music. After the postlude is finished you are invited to remain to pray
or meditate in the quiet of this place for as long as you may wish.
As you leave the sanctuary, be very aware that Jesus will walk with you.
"The gift of hope assures victory for tomorrow." Go in that hope. |
