Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of God who calls
us to peace. Each day in this sacred place, we pray to God for peace in
our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Madagascar in our prayers.
Madagascar is an island in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of
Africa. The fourth largest island in the world, Madagascar resisted
colonization until the French took control in 1896. Independent as the
Malagasy Republic in 1960, it changed its name back in 1975. Its
predominantly agricultural people are a mix of African, Polynesian, and
Arab.
For your peace, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.
For the peace of the world, for the well-being of all peoples, and for
the safety of all, let us pray to the Lord.
For our mental, spiritual, and physical well-being, let us pray to the
Lord. |

The temple shall be dedicated to the
pursuit of peace. It shall be for reconciliation and for healing of the
spirit. |

Prayer for Peace by Carol Oliver Wilkins,
Pensacola, Florida |
| |
O LORD, OUR LORD, you who have designed and created us,
we come before you now, to petition, to plead for the courage, the
desire, and the will to search for peace.
Help us, Father, to discover your design for peace, knowing that our
design has fallen and failed when you have been excluded.
Send your spirit, O Lord, to guide our hearts and minds along the often
stormy and rocky road to a peace which will endure.
Give us the peace of your Son, our Savior, and renew our ability to
become peacemakers, reclaiming our world for him.
Let us then move to act out, not just talk about, the peace that comes
from our divine connection to you, our God, our Creator and the only
true author of lasting peace.
Now let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be
acceptable in your sight, O Lord our strength and our Redeemer. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all that is, and all that shall come to be: We
praise you. We give thanks for this time of remembering your goodness,
your loving care, your guidance and your plan for creation to be at
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Forgive us when we have not remembered, and have been guilty of actions
and thoughts that did not promote peace. Be with us, we pray, and teach
us of your peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
This day, O God, we remember Madagascar and its people who struggle
daily for peace and acceptance and justice. Fit a blessing to their
needs, and open our eyes that we may see how we can foster peace and
acceptance and justice for all people. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would also remember the concerns and petitions of those gathered here
this day. Hear us, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

May your name be praised and all nations bow before your majesty, Great
God of all nations. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with meditation music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
And now, may God, direct us and guide us into paths of peace, for we
truly desire to be peacemakers and peacekeepers. Amen. |
