Call to Prayer

We greet you in the name of the Prince of Peace who
calls us to worship. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of
peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we
pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Jamaica in our prayers. Jamaica is
located in the Caribbean. The island's somber history is rooted in the
sugar-plantation economy, and the slave era still weighs heavily on the
national psyche. Modern Jamaica is a densely populated, poverty-ridden
country that is struggling to escape dependency and debt.
Blessed is the name of our God who is mindful of this people as we
worship the Prince of Peace in faith and joy. |

| Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:14-16 NIV |
| |
You are the light of the world. A city on a
hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a
bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone
in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before all people,
that they may see your good deeds and praise your Creator in heaven. |

Prayer for Peace by Donald V. Lents,
Independence, Missouri |
| |
O Lord, Our God, we realize today that all about us, in
our world, is dissension, strife, war and unrest. However, through these
few minutes in this peaceful beautiful place we find our sanctuary.
It is our desire, O Lord, to become men and women willing to meet
head-on, negative activities causing heart-ache, grief and pain.
Today we join hands and hearts with many in an effort to attain the
fulfillment of your counsel and direction. Accept our gratitude for the
many devoted and consecrated individuals striving for a peaceful world
in which to reside. May we truly be a part of this endeavor and find
satisfaction and success as we all unite our efforts with your son, the
peacemaker of all times.
We express our thanks and our desires in the spirit of expectation and
anticipation that the world will be richer as a result of our
cooperative endeavors.
This is our petition in the name of the great peacemaker, Jesus Christ,
the Son of the Living God. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We pray to you, O God, for all people in their daily
life and work; for our families, friends, neighbors, and for those who
are alone; for this community, the nations, and the world; and for
others who work for justice, freedom, and peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Today we remember especially your people in Jamaica. Be with them that
they may receive justice and their needs be filled. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the just and proper use of your creation; for the victims of
hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression; for all who are in danger,
sorrow, or any kind of trouble. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
For the special needs and concerns of those here gathered, we ask your
blessing. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings. In your compassion, forgive us our
sins, known and unknown, things done or left undone. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
