It is good to welcome you today
to this sacred place. Thank you for joining us in this time of worship.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the Indigenous Peoples of South America. Among
others, this includes the Aymara, Inca, Mayan, Tarahumara, Aztec, J’vara,
Araucano, and Guaran’ peoples. The indigenous people of our world were
the first inhabitants of the lands wherever they may reside. Many of
them were peaceful, loving people living in harmony with the land and
nature. But, too often they were pushed aside and their rights trampled
underfoot to make way for "civilization." They work hard to retain their
culture and their way of life in an ever-changing world. We remember
them today and lift them to you, God, for the light of your healing.
Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for God is
gracious, and a song of praise is seemly. |

Because you are God’s chosen ones, holy and
beloved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt compassion, with kindness,
humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another; forgive
whatever grievances you have against one another—forgive in the same way
God has forgiven you. Above all else, put on love, which binds the rest
together and makes them perfect.
Let Christ’s peace reign in your hearts since, as members of one body,
you have been called to that peace. Dedicate yourselves to thankfulness.
Let the Word of Christ, rich as it is, dwell in you. Instruct and
admonish one another wisely. Sing gratefully to God from your hearts in
psalms, hymns and songs of the Spirit. And whatever you do, whether in
speech or in action, do it in the name of Jesus our Savior, giving
thanks to God through Christ. |

Prayer for Peace by Karen Anne Smith,

Our Gracious Creator,
Forgive us our human frailty. Cleanse us of all resentment that we may
truly become your children. We love your creation and claim all people
as family. Our hearts ache to relieve the suffering in our world, to
bring the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to the bruised and broken
hearted. But as much as we love each person, we know that you love them
even more. Your love is pure, unfathomable and unfailing.
Increase our love, dear friend, to include those who are "enmeshed in
sin", snared by the darkness of hate. These are also your children and
part of our family. Fill our hearts with compassion that overcomes
anger. Please teach us how to listen to your direction that we may
become instruments of peace, children of God.
In the name of Jesus the Living Christ we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Life is never so full and free as when we engage in the
full and free experience of praising God. We thank God for the
intervening power at work in our world. Grant that our eyes may be
opened, and our ears, that the sights and sounds of God's mighty works
may call forth greater work by us. |

We pray for peace for the Indigenous Peoples of South America. One by
one we name our extended family as we marvel at the ministry of God's
Holy Spirit in their lives. May the peacemakers feel your presence as
they work towards your peace. |

Personal deficiencies and lack of resources hinder our involvement in
the cause of peace. We seek personal forgiveness and a keener sense of
what is important and urgent in our living. Few, if any of us, are not
disabled. May our mutual disableness give rise to an unusual gift of
helpfulness on the part of each. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our
community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held
up to God for prayerful consideration. |

Mighty God of the galaxies, we sense an
excitement in our souls as we anticipate our future. Help us to rejoice,
and help us live our lives in this joyful investment in your cause.
Amen. |
