We greet you in the name of our
Savior, Jesus Christ, and welcome you to this sacred place. Each day in
this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace
in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the indigenous peoples of Asia in our prayers.
Among others, this includes the Ainu, Tibetans, Negrito, Veda, Kurds,
and Bedouin Tribes and peoples.
Those who fall into this category today tend to be invisible people in
their own countries. Often their presence and identity is not
acknowledged by the governments of the countries they live in. Their
cultural identity is seen as “less than” the culture of the dominant
culture, and their traditional food, medicine, language and history are
being lost. They suffer from issues of poverty, disease and human
rights. They struggle to be heard by their governments, their
surrounding communities, and even their churches.
On this day, the United Nations has set aside October second as the
International Day of Non-Violence since 2001, as well as the
International decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the
Children of the World to 2010. Bear in mind that the United Nations
promote non-violence, tolerance, full respect for all human rights and
fundamental freedoms for all. Together, we can reaffirm the universal
relevance of the principle of non-violence, and the desire to secure a
culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence,
As we gather in community today, we recognize that sometimes answers
seem far away—but our prayers can open doors for the spirit of peace to
touch lives and find peaceful resolutions. |

Lord God
Creator of all
Giver of all gifts
Lover of all:
We pray to you on behalf of our troubled world,
fraught with conflict, injustice, and misunderstanding.
The peace that we seek often seems so unreachable,
so far from possibility.
We yearn for things to be different than they are—for the
old world to become new.
We acknowledge our own participation in the difficulties of
your times, and so we pledge our intent and resources
to the cause of peace.
May we accept your presence in our lives that calls us to be
peacemakers.
May we unite with others to make our world a better place to live.
We pray in the name of Christ our Lord. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We thank you, God, for your many blessings: for friends,
family, and those who give particular meaning to our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings. In your mercy, we ask forgiveness
for our sins, things done and things left undone. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the Indigenous Peoples of Asia, their leaders and their
people. May they know peace in a world that tries to deny them their
worth as persons. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Let us pray now for the special concerns and needs of those who are
gathered here this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayers, O God, as we ask for guidance as we become instruments
of your peace. Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We will conclude our service today with ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Now let us leave as we have worshiped, full of joy and peace. Grant us,
Great God, the blessing to live so that all forms of intolerance and
discrimination because of religion or belief will be banned from our
lives. This is our prayer. Amen |
