Good afternoon, and welcome to
this sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of
peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we
pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Germany in our prayers. Located in
Central Europe, Germany remains a key member of the continent's
economic, political, and defense organizations. Europe's strongest
economic and industrial power, Germany is also the most populous
European country outside Russia. Divided into two German states since
World War Two, the decline of the USSR and the end of the Cold War
allowed for German unification in 1990. Since then, Germany has expended
considerable funds to bring eastern productivity and wages up to western
standards. Today's united Germany has its problems, but the social
dislocation which was widely forecast has been minimal. Although the
euphoria of reunification has subsided, and there is some resentment and
disaffection from both sides, Germany is working towards true unity.
As we gaze upon our lighted candle, let us think upon other times and
places where God’s truth has burst forth as the way from darkness into
light. |

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for
I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls;
for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. |

Prayer for Peace by Michael Menzel, Augsburg,
Germany |
| |
O God, in this moment we come into your presence to say
thank you for the many blessings you have given us. To say thank you for
all our talents, for the life we have, given through you.
Today we especially ask for peace for Germany. You know the many
divisions this country is facing. Be with us, we pray, and give us the
guidance we seek.
We pray that this country may come together and unite, to stand for
peace and justice in the world, that we may not only see where our
profits will be, but will stand up against any sort of injustice.
Let all churches work together in this. You're calling us to go out, and
touch the souls of the people, that they are constantly reminded of your
son, who is called the Prince of Peace, and who will guide us in all
good things we try to do. So we ask you to grant us your Spirit, that
this country may learn more of peace, will promote peace and live in
peace.
This we pray in the name of Jesus the Christ, Amen. |

We will conclude our service today with Ministry of
Music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place and pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let
us go forth now and be peacemakers. |
